How are planets different from stars?

Even in ancient times, observers noticed that in the sky, in addition to fixed stars, there are special wandering bodies, and they called them planets (the word "planet" in Greek means "wandering").

At first glance, the planet and the star are really very similar. But if you look closely, you can see that the stars twinkle, and the planets shine with an even, calm light. This is because stars, like our Sun, are hot balls of gas, and planets do not have their own light, we see them because they reflect sunlight falling on their surface.

Through binoculars or a telescope, the planet is visible as a small bright circle, and any star is always a luminous point. If you watch the sky for several nights in a row, you will notice that the planets move against the background of stars that are fixed in relation to each other.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Remote control teacher 06.01.2006

Schools in the US and UK have a new classroom survey technique. Each student is armed with a remote control like a conventional TV, and on the teacher's desk is a computer that can receive infrared signals from the remotes.

The teacher asks a question or writes it on the board, offering options for answers, and each student, clicking the remote control, chooses the correct option, in his opinion. As a result, during the lesson, you can repeatedly poll the entire class. The computer fixes the results. With signals, the student can also attract the attention of the teacher to ask a question or ask him to come and help.

There are about half a million such remotes in use in US schools alone.
