What is natural wool?

Soft woolen clothes are a very comfortable type of clothing, they are widely used all over the world. They retain heat, wear well, keep their shape, absorb moisture, but do not let it close to the skin. The source of these wonderful tissues is the hairline of domestic rams and sheep. This cover, as well as the yarn obtained from it, is called wool. Hair is also sheared from other animals, but it has other names. Mohair is obtained from angora goats, cashmere from cashmere goats.

Alpaca, llama, vigon gave the name to the corresponding types of wool. Wool is so valuable and useful that it is used repeatedly. The industry recycles woolen fabrics from old clothes, carpets and production waste. They are washed and reused.

To protect consumer interests, governments in many countries, including the UK, have passed laws requiring items containing wool to be labeled with the amount of wool, percentage of recycled wool and non-wool additives. In accordance with these laws, natural wool is wool without additives, never used before, not subjected to processing processes.

What parasite replaces an entire host organ?

The parasite Cymothoa exigua, or "tongue-eating woodlice", is the only parasite known to science that replaces an entire host organ. The woodlouse penetrates through the gills into the body of the spotted pink snapper, then sucks the blood out of the tongue of the fish and, after its atrophy, begins to perform the functions of the tongue itself. Along the way, the parasite feeds on the blood and mucus of the host, but this does not lead to the death of the fish.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>
