Who is a unicorn?

In the old days, traveling to distant lands was a long and dangerous undertaking. Those who dared to commit them and returned safely home, told in their homeland about strange and wonderful things they met in a foreign land. Often it was about mythical animals, unusual and terrible.

Passed from mouth to mouth, these stories became even more amazing over time. Sailors reported sea snakes - terrible monsters 60 meters long and 6 meters thick with bright blue eyes that devoured people; about mermaids with long green hair and shiny scaly tails that inhabited the seas and invited sailors to their abyss to perish.

Some travelers claimed that in distant countries where they happened to visit, they met a strange creature - a unicorn. The head and body of this animal were the same as those of a horse, the beard on the muzzle resembled that of a goat, and the tail looked the same as that of a lion! But most importantly, a long twisted horn flaunted on the forehead of the unicorn, which contained magical power. It was said that with the help of it you can determine the presence of poison in the liquid, and therefore the search for these horns was carried out for a long time.

It is clear that these searches were fruitless, because unicorns never really existed, although many people believed otherwise. Another mythical animal, which many considered quite real, was the griffin, a cross between a lion and an eagle. The Greeks told stories about centaurs - half-humans, half-horses. Belief in terrible fire-breathing dragons was also extremely widespread.

Although modern scientists are trying to understand what real animals became the prototypes of mythical creatures, no one knows why people believed that unicorns, centaurs and griffins existed. By the way, it is curious that the image of a unicorn was on the old Russian cannons, so called "unicorns".

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What, besides armed struggle, does jihad include?

Jihad is not necessarily an armed struggle of Muslims against infidels. This concept in Islam is much broader, and primarily means a spiritual struggle with one's own shortcomings on the path of Allah Almighty. A participant in jihad is called a mujahideen, and this is not only a warrior, but also a teacher, and a mullah, and a mother raising her child.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Frameless smartphone with built-in solar battery 12.08.2019

Xiaomi has filed a patent application with the World Intellectual Property Organization for the development of a solar-powered smartphone. The images included in this document show a mobile device with a full screen front panel without cutouts or holes. The front camera is not visible, there is no retractable module either, but the camera can be hidden under the display - the corresponding technology is currently being developed. The most interesting is on the back panel, where the solar panel is placed.

In addition to a dual camera with flash, the design of which is identical to Xiaomi Mi 8 and Redmi Note 6 Pro, the smartphone is equipped with a solar panel that occupies most of the body. However, this design does not make the device thicker, the images show that the camera module protrudes even more than this battery.

It is not yet clear if Xiaomi really intends to release a smartphone with a solar battery, but the Chinese company may be the first manufacturer to do so. Although the idea is not new and has already been implemented using separate modules. So, for example, in 2010, LG released an accessory cover for the LG Pop GD510 phone with a solar battery, and last year, the Caviar brand released the iPhone X Tesla with a built-in panel.
