Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Chinese augmented reality glasses 10.04.2013

Chinese internet company Baidu Inc. (Chinese analogue of Google) is developing augmented reality glasses (a competitor to Google Glass), The Next Web reports with reference to Kaiser Kuo, Baidu's director of international communications.

The device is similar in concept to Google Glass - augmented reality glasses created by Google. However, unlike the project of an American company, Chinese glasses are not yet planned to be put into mass production. Koh said the product is experimental and is being tested inside Baidu. Glasses (device code name - Baidu Eye) are able to perceive voice commands, find information on the Web and recognize the faces of people and objects caught in the lens of the built-in cameras.

The first reports from Baidu glasses were published by Chinese blogs Sina Technology and Tech in Asia, citing anonymous sources. Since the lyrics came out on the first of April, many considered them a joke. Blogs indicated that the goggles included a bone conduction headset and an LCD screen.

Augmented reality glasses, on the one hand, show the user additional information about the objects that surround him, and on the other hand, they act as a "substitute for a smartphone" - they allow you to make calls, send messages, search for information on the Internet on the go. In addition to Google and Baidu, Canon, Olympus, Microsoft, Oakley and other companies are developing augmented reality glasses. According to unofficial data, Apple is also interested in wearable electronics, but it chose to rely not on glasses, but on wristwatches that can replace a smartphone and tablet.

Baidu Inc. owns China's largest search engine Baidu (with a market share of over 70 percent) and a range of Internet services, from a dating site to an analogue of Wikipedia. In addition, Baidu Inc. develops its own operating system - Baidu Yi, which is a fork (offshoot) of Android.
