Why does water evaporate?

Everyone knows that if you hang your washed laundry, it will dry. And it is also obvious that the wet pavement will definitely become dry after the rain. Evaporation is the process by which a liquid gradually changes into air in the form of vapor or gas. All liquids evaporate at different rates. Alcohol, ammonia and kerosene evaporate faster than water. There are two forces acting on the molecules that make up all substances. The first is the bond that holds them together. The other is the thermal movement of molecules, which causes them to fly apart. When these two forces are balanced, we have a liquid.

On the surface of a liquid, its molecules are in motion. These molecules, which move faster than the neighboring ones below, can fly into the air, overcoming the forces of cohesion. This is evaporation. When the liquid is heated, evaporation occurs faster. This happens because in a warm liquid the speed of movement of molecules is greater, more molecules have a chance to leave the liquid. There is no evaporation in a closed vessel.

This happens because the number of molecules in a pair reaches a certain level. Then the number of molecules leaving the liquid will be equal to the number of molecules returning to it. When this happens, we can say that the steam has reached its saturation point. When the air above the liquid moves, the rate of evaporation increases. The larger the surface of the evaporating liquid, the faster the evaporation. Water in a round pan will evaporate faster than in a tall pitcher.

Are Seaweeds Healthy?

Wherever there is sea water, seaweed can be found. They exist in a wide variety and belong to a large group of plants called algae - these are plants, but without leaves, stems, roots and flowers. But they also contain a green pigment called chlorophyll. Therefore, they can produce their own food. The reason these plants are not green in color is that chlorophyll is often taken up by other pigments, which is why some seaweeds are brown or red.

In the temperate zone, brown algae are most common. They grow in layers between the high and low tides, and have bubble floaters that children love to squash between their fingers. These plants are attached to stones with hook-shaped roots.

Another well known sea grass is kelp. It has different forms. In most cases, it is a long, flat, dense, blade-like grass that is attached to rocks with a stiff stem. Along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, some of these algae reach 6 m in length, and the giant kelp of the Pacific Ocean is even longer. This brown alga belongs to the species that are used by humans, for example, to fertilize the soil, because they have a high concentration of potassium carbonate. They also serve as a source of iodine.

Another useful type of seaweed is Irish moss. It is quite rough and tough, like leather. It releases large amounts of agar-agar, a colorless jelly-like substance. In the East, tons of red seaweed are dried and eaten. They are not very nutritious, but contain a large amount of agar-agar. They are used as an additive in soups and to give density to other dishes.

Seaweed is also the main food source for ocean dwellers. The little sea creatures feed on them and in turn become food for the big ones. Seaweed releases oxygen and this helps keep the water clean. So, you see why seaweed is considered beneficial to humans.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Samsung Family Hub refrigerator with Wi-Fi, cameras and screen 21.01.2016

Usually the refrigerator is in the corner and silently does its job. Samsung Family Hub with Wi-Fi, a giant display and built-in speakers, in contrast, is in the spotlight.

There have been "smart" appliances for your kitchen for some time now. Not all of them have a special meaning, but let's separate the wheat from the chaff. The "Samsung Family Hub" refrigerator is a grain of salt: the four-door, as is customary in American design, offers not only plenty of space and an ice maker, but also an abundance of entertainment features and useful applications. This is to be expected from a $5000 device.

Perhaps most notable is the 21,5-inch Full-HD touchscreen display on the right door. Under Gorilla Glass, this "oversized" tablet runs Samsung's Tizen operating system, which offers a variety of applications. So right on the fridge you can create a shopping list, pin photos, order groceries or organize a family calendar.

While you are in the kitchen cooking, you can display TV programs while listening to the sound through the built-in speakers. Those who prefer to do without images can simply listen to music.

3 cameras film your mayonnaise, tomato paste and salmon. Like the Bosch Home-Connect refrigerator, the Family Hub sends photos to your smartphone when you close the doors. This way, when you go shopping, you can see what products are missing. In addition, a dynamic label can be placed on the picture so that you always know which products are about to expire.

If there is not enough space for certain products, you can use FlexZone technology to turn one of the four zones into a refrigerator or freezer, depending on the need.
