How does a banana tree grow?

The banana tree is not really a tree at all. There is no wood at all in the stem that rises above the ground. The stem consists of leaves growing close together, one inside the other. The leaves straighten out at the top of the plant, making it look like a palm tree. To plant a banana, the roots (they are torn off from the foot of an already growing plant) are planted in holes 30 cm deep and from 3,3 to 5,5 m apart. Each root should have one or more buds, or "eyes" like the "eyes" of a potato. After 3-4 weeks, green shoots should appear above the ground. Only the strongest shoot is destined to become a plant. It forms its own root system, from which more plants will later grow.

The banana tree requires a lot of care and attention. It needs to be heavily watered if there is not enough rainfall. The ground around the plant should be thoroughly weeded. 9-10 months after planting, a flower appears on a banana plant. The flower grows on a long stem and rises if it stretched out at the foot of the trunk, or goes down if it began to grow at the top. Small bananas form on the flower stem if it grows down.

Bananas grow upside down. While bananas are just born on the flower stalk, they face down, but when they grow, they turn up. Bananas should be harvested while they are still green. Even if they are to be eaten on the spot, they cannot be allowed to ripen on the tree. A banana that turns yellow on the tree loses its flavor.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Why does Japan have two power grids with different frequencies?

Usually, within one state, the mains voltage has a strictly defined frequency - either 50 Hz or 60 Hz. And in Japan there are two systems - in the western part the frequency is 60 Hz, in the eastern part - 50 Hz, and there are four frequency converters between them. This state of affairs arose due to the fact that generators from the German company AEG were purchased for the Tokyo power system in 1895, and for Osaka a year later, American generators from General Electric were purchased. Since then, each of these networks has developed according to its own standards, and it turned out to be too costly to unify.

Latest news of science and technology, new electronics:

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Apple MacBook Air 22.12.2010

As part of the next presentation, Apple introduced the iLife 'I software package, the latest version of Mac OS X Lion and, finally, new MacBook Air configurations, positioned as a kind of hybrid of iPad and laptop. There are now two devices in the line - with screens of 13,3 "and 11,6".

The older model has become even thinner and lighter, while the characteristics are close to the 13-inch MacBook and MacBook Pro. It features a Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA GeForce 320M integrated graphics, a multi-touch touchpad, and a FaceTime-enabled camera.

One of the most important features is the lack of an optical drive and hard drive. Instead of HDD, SSD drives are used here.
