Smart payment card BrilliantTS

03.08.2015

CSR has announced the imminent sale of the "smart" BrilliantTS card. The peculiarity of this card is that it can store data for up to thirty of your cards and completely replace them.

The device is compatible with ATMs and electronic payment terminals and is designed for EMV standard cards, under which such payment systems as Europay, Visa and Mastercard operate. According to the creators, BrilliantTS can be used when paying for public transport, in systems with magnetic stripe reading and as an electronic key.

The card will be shipped with a magnetic stripe reader. To get started, you will need to install and run a special application, connect the reader to your smartphone, and then swipe through it all the plastic cards that you want to add to the system - these can be either debit or credit bank cards, or various discount cards or cards -keys with magnetic stripe.

All card data will be stored in your smartphone's memory and, according to CSR's CTO, will not be transferred to remote servers. The service will only store the minimum information necessary to identify the user.

Further, the smartphone is paired with the device via Bluetooth and as a result, the user can use one card everywhere and carry it in his wallet. It should be noted that the card uses CSR1013 to connect to a smartphone - this is the thinnest chip that supports Bluetooth Smart 4.1.

The advantages of the technology also include low power consumption, which will allow you to use BrilliantTS without recharging for a long time.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Bulletproof vest made of nanostructured carbon material 01.07.2021

Light weight and thin are two desirable indicators when it comes to materials used for the production of bulletproof vests and other protective equipment. Researchers have made impressive strides in this area, using the latest advances in nanotechnology and drawing inspiration from "naturally occurring technologies" such as the structure of the shells of some marine molluscs.

The breakthrough in this area is a new material developed by materials scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which outperforms materials such as Kevlar and steel in many basic parameters.

The starting point for the manufacture of a new material is a light-sensitive polymer, in the volume of which, with the help of laser light, a nanolattice with an ordered regular structure was formed. After creating the lattice, this material was placed in a high-temperature vacuum chamber, where the polymer was transformed into a lightweight carbon material with a given structure.

To test the new material and measure the values of its key parameters, the researchers used a kind of plasma gun, in which an expanding cloud of plasma gas was created by laser light, pushing projectile particles towards a target made of material. Gold-coated glass particles and silicon particles were used as projectiles, and adjusting the duration and power of the laser pulses made it possible to shoot these particles at a speed of 40 to 1100 meters per second. And to register the consequences of "shooting" with such shells, high-speed cameras were used.

The new material was able to absorb and dissipate impact energy more efficiently than steel, aluminum and Kevlar of comparable thickness and weight. And now the new material has every chance of becoming the basis of the next generation of personal protective equipment, which is lighter and more effective than similar products made from traditional materials.
