Why is the Leaning Tower of Pisa falling?

If the tower in the city of Pisa didn't even "fall", it would still be an absolute miracle. It is built entirely of white marble. The walls at the base are four meters thick. The tower has 8 floors, it reaches a height of 54,5 meters, which is equal to the height of a 15-story building. A staircase built into the wall, consisting of 300 steps, leads to the top. By the way, those who climb this staircase to the very top observe an amazing panorama of the city and the sea.

The upper part of the tower deviated from the vertical by 5 meters. In other words, she "bent over." If you stand on top of the tower and throw a stone, it will fall 5 meters from the base of the tower. Why is she falling? Nobody knows the exact answer to this question. Of course, when it was built, they did not want it to "fall" at all.

She was supposed to stand up straight. It was supposed to become the bell tower of the cathedral, which was located nearby. It began to be built in 1174, and construction was completed in 1350. The foundation of the tower is on the sand. Perhaps this is what caused the "fall" of the tower. But she didn't start falling right away. It started when three floors, or three galleries, had already been built. The project was slightly changed, and the building was "straightened". But it did not help. Over the past 100 years, the tower has deviated by 0,3 meters. Engineers believe that the tower is correctly called "falling" because they are sure that it will fall anyway.

What causes a headache?

The answer to this question could be: anything! A headache can start for a hundred reasons. But this is not a disease, but a symptom. In this way, we know that something is wrong with us - in some part of the body or nervous system.

Of course, we know something about the mechanism of headache formation. She herself appears due to a certain structure of the skull. It is not the very substance of the brain that is sensitive to pain, but what covers it - various veins and arteries. When they "ache", then there is a headache. Pain in the teeth, ears, muscles can affect the brain area and cause a headache. Compression of the muscles of the head can also lead to the same consequences.

When people complain about a headache, you can notice that everyone names their own reason. So, some people have a headache when they are hungry, others - without a cup of coffee drunk in the morning or with a hangover. What happens in all these cases? The cranial arteries narrow or expand - this is the cause of the headache. It is known as vascular headache.

With a strong shock or a sudden turn of the head, a person may complain of a headache. There is nothing special in these cases either. If a person experiences great emotional stress, then this leads to the fact that the muscles of the back, lower part of the head and neck are compressed. Result? Headache!

Migraine is a special type of headache that is very different from others. But as you can see, headaches have many, many causes!

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Muscle building gene found 31.07.2022

Researchers from the Universities of Melbourne and Copenhagen have studied molecular responses in muscles before, during and after various types of exercise.

The found gene will help discover alternative treatments even without exercise.

To determine how genes and proteins are activated during and after exercise, the authors analyzed human skeletal muscle during exercise, said Dr. Benjamin Parker, lead author of the study.

The team analyzed how the signaling responses in the muscles changed after different types of exercise, as well as how consistent these changes were in different people.

Based on this, they identified a previously unrecorded C18ORF25 gene. He activated most of the time.

To test it out, the team engineered mice without the gene. As a result, they had a deficiency of muscle fibers. This led to muscle weakness and reduced physical performance. Conversely, when they increased gene activity, the animals' muscles became stronger.

The authors said their work will help fight muscle wasting and prevent and treat chronic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and many types of cancer.
