How did the United Nations come about?

The primary work to create the United Nations was done by the United States Department of State during World War II. At the Moscow Foreign Ministers' Conference in 1943, Secretary of State Cordell Hull was able to reach an agreement with the Soviet Union, Great Britain, and the Republic of China. They came to an agreement on the creation of an international organization to strengthen peace and security among all peace-loving states. The following year, the Dumbarton Oaks Conference was held in Washington. There, representatives of the Soviet Union, Great Britain, the Republic of China and the United States agreed on the main provisions of the activities of this organization. But there was still a long way to go.

In 1945 at Yalta, the Allied countries - the United States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union - decided that the conference should be held in San Francisco and that the foundations of a new organization should be worked out. The conference was supposed to be attended by all countries that participated in the Second World War on the side of the Allies. We agreed to prepare the charter of the new organization in order to adopt it at the forthcoming conference.

The founding conference of the United Nations was convened in San Francisco from April 25 to June 26, 1945. At first, 46, and later 50 countries took part in its work. The organization's charter was adopted at the conference. The United Nations is not only an institution that promotes peace. It also has other functions, such as the establishment of cooperation on economic and social problems, the observance of human rights, and assistance in the economic and political development of states.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

In what area of space can a person see his back without the aid of instruments?

Light consists of elementary particles of photons that do not have mass and charge. Near black holes, there are so-called photon spheres - areas where gravity is so strong that photons begin to orbit. If an observer enters the photonic sphere, he can theoretically see his own back.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
