Why is fire hot?

The answer to this question is the very definition of fire. Fire accompanies combustion - a rapidly occurring reaction in which heat and light are released. There are several kinds of chemical reactions that can result in the phenomenon we call fire. The most common of these is the reaction between oxygen and fuel. If heat and light are released as a result of it, we get fire. Three things are needed to start a fire.

The first is fuel, the second is oxygen. Fuel quickly begins to combine with oxygen. When wood is burned in a fire or gas is burned in a stove, there is a vigorous interaction between the fuel and the oxygen in the air. The third thing we need to start a fire is warmth. Paper or wood cannot catch fire simply by being exposed to air. Usually this requires a lit match. When the paper is heated sufficiently, oxygen begins to actively react with it - and the paper is engulfed in flames.

Each type of fuel can ignite only at a certain temperature. It is called its ignition temperature. Imagine a wooden stick being heated to ignition temperature by a burning match. It's not all covered in flames. The reason for this is that oxygen does not come into contact with the rod as a whole, but only with its upper layer, which turns into a gaseous substance under the action of heat. As the heating continues, the gas particles and oxygen in the air move very quickly. Under these conditions, gas and oxygen particles combine very easily and quickly. Heat and light are emitted: we have received fire.

With some types of combustion, no light is emitted. If the fuel reacts slowly with oxygen, only heat is released. This happens, for example, when rust eats iron. Rusting is just a very slow form of burning, so slow that you can't even feel the heat it gives off. Fire is a rapid burning, or ignition, and when ignited, both heat and light are released.

What language do gypsies speak?

Do you know why some people are called gypsies? Many years ago, the inhabitants of Europe thought that they originally came from Egypt, and the word "gypsies" came from the word "Egypt". It is believed that about a thousand years ago, several tribes from northwestern India migrated to other countries, and these were real gypsies. Some of these tribes reached Persia, others wandered the lands where Turkey is now located, and only a few went to Syria, Egypt and North Africa. And since they really came from India, they spoke the Indian language, which is related to Sanskrit.

Later, the Gypsy tribes roamed the Balkans, Russia, Hungary, and then eventually ended up in Western Europe, including Germany, France, England, Spain, and even Sweden and Finland. Over centuries of wandering, the gypsy language mixed with words borrowed from the languages of the countries where the gypsies lived. The English gypsies speak a broken language which is a mixture of gypsy and English words.

In English, the Romani language is called "Romani". In the same language, the name of a gypsy motorhome is "vardo". Gypsies were engaged in professions that allowed them to roam the land. Some gypsies were wood carvers, others mended pots, some were poets and singers or fortune tellers.

It is interesting to learn how the Roma in individual countries developed in different directions. English gypsies became horse traders. In Wales, gypsies are singers, violinists and harpists. Spanish gypsies are known to be excellent flamenco dancers. In Hungary and Romania, many gypsies are musicians. In Yugoslavia, many gypsies are engaged in the production of gunpowder.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Subcutaneous chips with COVID-passport 31.12.2021

Several thousand Swedes have implanted implants under their skin in recent years, eliminating the need to constantly carry public transport tickets, a bank card, an electronic key or a business card. Recently, DSruptive Subdermals started using the chips as a COVID passport. This was reported by the agency AFP.

"A chip implant costs 100 euros. If you want to buy a more advanced version, for example, for tracking health indicators, it will probably cost twice as much. But a chip implant lasts 20-40 years," said Hannes Sjoblad, Managing Director DSruptive Subdermals.

Many "consider chips a scary technology," he says, but they should be treated as mere identification tags.

"They don't have a battery, they can't transmit on their own, they can't determine your location," Sjoblad said.

The chip consists of certified biocompatible glass, high-brightness lead-free LED, ultra-thin circuit board with NFC interface, EEPROM. Works with iOS and Android. The chip also has 2 KB of memory, a coil with an inductive ferrite core at a frequency of 13,56 MHz.

DSruptive Subdermals guarantees data retention for 50 years.
