What makes us wake up? Detailed answer Directory / Big encyclopedia. Questions for quiz and self-education Did you know? What makes us wake up? We all have sleep disorders at times. Sometimes we really want to sleep, but we just can't get to sleep. Sometimes we do not fall asleep for a long time or get up at dawn. And sometimes it seems to us that we could sleep and sleep, but this nasty alarm clock starts ringing, as luck would have it! What makes us wake up, scientists are not yet completely clear. Since there are two theories about this, let's look at them briefly. The first theory is that sleep and fatigue are phenomena of the same order. Nerve cells get tired because their energy supply is used up faster than it is replenished. Nerve cells can also become tired because waste products build up faster than they are eliminated from the body. When we think, see, feel, in general, carry out any kind of mental activity, we expend energy. Therefore, the brain and other nerve centers need rest. Sleep erases our fatigue, and when we wake up, we feel rested and capable of further activity. Some scientists believe that we actually fall asleep due to the fact that one of the nerve centers, called the vasomotor, which regulates the contraction and expansion of blood vessels, gets tired. This leads to the fact that the blood vessels partially block the blood supply - and we fall asleep. When this center restores the blood supply it needs, we wake up. Another theory of sleep and awakening interprets these phenomena quite differently. According to this theory, we have a kind of "waking center" in the lower part of the brain. Our mental activity and emotions stimulate this center throughout the day, sending appropriate signals there. As long as these brain signals come to this center, we continue to be awake. When these signals stop, we fall asleep. Now suppose that during sleep we wanted to eat, it became cold or, conversely, hot, or some strong feeling appeared in our soul, for example, a feeling of fear. In all these cases, the center of wakefulness is affected - and we wake up. But keep in mind that different people need different amounts of sleep. It depends on age, body condition, nature of work activity and even individual sleep habits. Adults need just enough sleep to wake up feeling rested and ready for a new day at work. Author: Likum A. Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia: What revolves around what: the Earth around the Moon or vice versa? Both. They revolve around each other. The orbits of two celestial bodies have one common center of mass, located about 1600 km deep from the Earth's surface, so that the Earth makes three different rotations: around its own axis, around the Sun and around this point. Confused? Dont be upset. Even Newton himself said that thinking about the movement of the moon made his head swell.
