When did women start doing their hair?

Both women and men have been combing and decorating their hair for as long as the first annals of our history appeared! For example, even in the most ancient times, women used combs of various shapes. Ancient people made combs from bone, wood and even bronze. Ancient people always paid great attention to their hair. Some dyed their hair black, white, or red. In Zaire (West Africa), the natives used castor bean oil to create their hair, and in many other tribes they smeared their hair with mud.

In ancient times, Greek women used long hairpins, which were very skillfully made and even decorated with sculptural images. On special occasions, they decorated their hairstyles with garlands, flower wreaths, and ribbons. Women's hairstyles depended on the area and customs and were constantly changing. But even in antiquity, it was believed that wavy hair was more attractive than straight hair. There are paintings and statues that showed women with rows of little curls over their eyebrows and at their temples, and these curls were styled by some artificial means. And men curled not only their hair, but also their beards!

As civilization developed, hairstyles and hair styling became more diverse. In some places straight hair was worn; in others curly hair was fashionable. The custom of wearing short hair for men and long hair for women is not very old and dates back to the end of the Middle Ages.

Where do snails get their shells from?

You have probably watched a snail protrude from its shell, moving its horns from side to side. Would you like to eat one of these? Not? But in some countries, for example in France, snails are considered one of the best delicacies!

Snails belong to the family of mollusks - animals without a spine. Some of them live in gardens, others in ponds, and some even in the oceans. But there are two main types of snails - those that have a shell, and those that are covered only by a thin mantle. Representatives of the second group are usually called slugs. Land snails have a three-centimeter shell. And the slugs are about 7 cm long.

All snails have one large leg located on the underside. These creatures are equipped with one or two pairs of antennae, or horns. They have two eyes, which can be located both at the ends of the antennae and at their base, and a mouth. It often expands into a tube, at the end of which are small sharp teeth, with which the snail can scrape off parts of plants.

Some snails eat animal food. The oyster borer, for example, the yellow-shelled sea snail, bores through the oyster shell and feeds on its flesh.

Snails and slugs breathe either with one lung or with gills. Those shells, which are often beautifully shaped, are distinguished by the mantle. They are usually spiral coils that appear as the animal grows.

Most snails lay eggs, but in some species, young are born by live birth. Snails and slugs leave a wet, shiny trail behind them. This allows them to walk and stay wet. This mucus, drying up, clogs the sink in winter. Snails hibernate in cracks or pits.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Paper airplane with laser engine 06.10.2002

In the laboratory of Japanese physicist Takashi Yabe, an airplane cut out of aluminum foil was tested, flying on laser energy.

A capsule with water or a special polymer is placed on the tail of the airplane and a beam is directed at it. Evaporating, the substance creates jet thrust. A speed of 1,4 meters per second has been reached.

So far it's a toy, but Professor Yabe believes that in the future, larger devices will be able to fly on the same principle, for example, to take air samples at high altitudes.
