Who invented stockings?

Stockings were originally made from leather to protect the legs. But even the very idea of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbprotecting the legs in this way became widespread only with the advent of Christianity.

The first people who tried to make a stocking similar to today's were the French. In the XNUMXth century they wore leather stockings to protect and keep their feet warm. Soon people wanted to have more attractive stockings. So there were factory stockings made from a combination of pieces of cloth, silk or velveteen. Stockings were often embroidered with gold, and were worn by secular people.

The first stockings woven from combed wool appeared in London around 1565. Queen Elizabeth received a gift of silk stockings, which made such a favorable impression on her that since then she began to wear them constantly. These silk stockings were made in Italy and only very rich people could afford to have them. Only at the beginning of the XNUMXth century did silk stockings become available to ordinary people.

How did the Inca empire die?

In 1531, Francisco Pizarro was the first to land on the coast of what is now Ecuador. There he discovered an empire that stretched almost three thousand miles along the west coast of South America. It was the great Inca empire. The population of this empire was 16 people, it was larger than any European state that existed at that time. The empire was well run. Every citizen worked, and the state bins were full of grain, so that no one was hungry, even if there was a crop failure in some province. Good roads led to all parts of the country, so news and decrees reached every village.

Life in the Inca empire was completely controlled, and everyone was so obedient that, perhaps, this is why the decline of the empire occurred. When Pizarro invaded the empire with his 180 soldiers, a conflict broke out between the Inca leaders Huascar and his half-brother Atahualpa, who should be the ruler. Atahualpa won. Pizarro captured him by treason. At the same time Huascar was captured and killed. Pizarro then killed Atahualpa as well. The Inca Empire was left without a leader and could not resist the Spanish invasion.

American Indians used to obey, but now the Spanish conquerors gave orders. The Spaniards were interested in the Incas mining, so they forced them to work in the mines. They neglected agriculture. Many Indians died from hard work and lack of food. The Inca Empire fell into decline. Many Indians survived this period, and their descendants became the main population of the Andes in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Serial Electric SUV Smart #1 14.04.2022

Smart has unveiled the production version of its Concept #1 electric crossover.

The new Smart #1 looks a lot like the prototype. The production version retained the frameless windows and glass roof. At the same time, the engineers abandoned some conceptual "frills", such as scissor doors, large 21-inch wheels (the production version is content with 19-inch wheels, 235/45 R19 tires) and two rear seats (a standard three-seat sofa is installed) .

The Smart #1 EV has a 66 kWh battery that provides a range of up to 440 km (according to the WLTP test cycle). At the same time, it takes 10 hours to charge the battery from 80% to 22% on a 3 kW AC mains, and less than 30 minutes when using ultra-fast DC charging for the same recharge of the battery. The vehicle is powered by a 200 kW (272 hp, 343 Nm) engine and has a top speed of 180 km/h.

Inside the car, a 12,8-inch infotainment display, a 9,2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch head-up display are available. Engineers have equipped Smart #1 with driver assistance systems, 7 airbags, and an optional "digital key" that allows you to transfer the electric car to friends.

The Smart #1 electric vehicle is 4270 mm long, 1822 mm wide and 1636 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. The mass of the car is 1820 kg, the maximum additional payload is declared at the level of 450 kg.
