Why is the mosquito considered the worst enemy of man?

Imagine yourself playing or just basking in the sun on a fine summer day. And suddenly you hear some buzzing and soon you feel a sting piercing into your arm or leg. Slapping yourself hard on the spot, you look down and see a tiny speck of blood. This means that you have just entered into battle with one of the worst enemies of man. For most of us, the mosquito is nothing more than an annoying parasite whose nasal buzz annoys us so much, especially at night. Also unpleasant is the bite of a mosquito, and the way the bite itches.

But this little insect is not just a parasite. Being the distributors of malaria and yellow fever, mosquitoes played a role in the fall of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations and killed many travelers who discovered new lands. Tropical coasts and other places with a hot climate are sparsely populated and underdeveloped, largely due to the proximity to mosquitoes.

Fortunately, in recent years, people have learned to fight the diseases that these parasites spread around the world. The male mosquito feeds only on plant juices, but the female prefers blood! So only females bite and, I must say, they have the appropriate equipment for this "work"! The proboscis of the female mosquito is equipped with a sharp point with jagged edges, as well as channels for injection and suction.

As soon as the female mosquito sits on the skin, she immediately begins to bore it. It injects a chemical compound into the tiny hole that has formed, which prevents the blood from coagulating or baking, after which it sucks out the blood and flies away. Usually, the fact that this place itches is not caused by the bite itself, but by the very injected liquid. So if you kill a mosquito before it has had a chance to suck that liquid back in along with the blood, the unpleasant sensation will be even worse!

What animal skin did Hercules use as his only clothing?

As punishment for the murder of his sons from Megara, the oracle ordered Hercules to serve the Tirynthian king Eurystheus for twelve years and perform ten labors at his command. Hercules was very upset, not wanting to serve a man who, as he knew, was inferior to him in many ways, however, fearing to disobey his father Zeus, he gave himself into the power of Eurystheus.

The first feat that Eurystheus ordered Heracles to perform was to kill the Nemean lion, whose skin reliably protected from iron, bronze and stone. Hercules reached Nemea at noon and there he saw the beast, which was returning to its lair, covered in the blood of the victims of the day's hunt. The hero fired a quiver of arrows at him, but they only bounced off the thick hide. The lion, yawning, licked its lips in anticipation of a new victim. Then Hercules resorted to the sword, but the blade bent as if it were made of lead. Finally, he swung his club and dealt such a blow to the head of the beast that the lion trudged into the cave, shaking his head, but not from pain, but only from the ringing in his ears.

Glancing dejectedly at the club broken into chips, Hercules entered the cave. Knowing now that no weapon could harm the monster, he grabbed the lion by the neck and strangled it with his hands with great effort. When he brought the slain beast to Mycenae, Eurystheus was so frightened that he ordered Hercules to no longer enter the city, showing the booty in front of the city gates. Eurystheus even built himself a bronze pithos in the ground, where he hid from Hercules, preferring to communicate with him only through the herald Kopreya.

The skin of the Nemean lion, which reliably protected, as mentioned above, from iron, bronze and stone, Hercules later used as a cloak - his only clothing.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Thecus N4810 NAS 05.08.2016

Thecus introduced the Thecus N4810 NAS, thereby expanding the range of NAS based on the Intel Braswell family of chips. The basis for the novelty was the Thecus N2810PRO model announced in June, from which the Intel Celeron N3160 SoC was borrowed.

This microcircuit received four cores with a frequency of 1,6-2,24 GHz, and the estimated heat dissipation is only 6 watts. The DDR3 RAM is 4 GB, but it can be upgraded up to 8 GB. Four 3,5" drive cages support up to 10TB drives each. The SATA interface is used, drives can be combined into an array of RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 with support for hot swap and spare. The entire array can be encrypted using the AES algorithm with a 256-bit key.

Two Gigabit Ethernet network ports support seven aggregation modes, doubling the throughput to 2 Gbps. In a home network, the presence of HDMI and DisplayPort video outputs along with an S / PDIF connector is useful. In addition to them, there are four USB 3.0 ports, an external 90 W power supply and an internal fan (92 mm), whose speed depends on temperature and the noise level does not exceed 25 dB.

ThecusOS 7.0 features data synchronization between two Thecus NAS, VPN remote access, personal cloud using mobile devices, and Kodi multimedia shell for 4K video playback.
