Why are we dancing?

Children, even before they can speak, and even without seeing anyone dancing, often find expression to their emotions through rhythmic movements. Do animals dance? There are birds that perform group movements in unison, such as circling, tilting, moving forward and backward.

At first, ancient man danced instinctively. He discovered that repetitive rhythmic movements evoke pleasant feelings, affect consciousness and emotions. This gave the dancing a magical power. And when a person wanted to evoke these pleasant feelings again, he began to dance. This led to the development of group dance.

And today there are tribes that are at a low level of development, which dance to attract "magical" power. There are ritual military and hunting dances, wedding and funeral dances, during planting and harvesting. These ritual dances were an integral part of religious ceremonies. They danced in the temples of ancient Egypt. The ancient Jews danced in the performance of their religious rites. The Bible says that King David danced in front of the Ark of the Covenant, expressing his religious feelings.

The Greeks developed dance to such an extent that it ceased to be part of religious ceremonies, but turned into a source of entertainment, became the basis for the development of theater and drama. The word "orchestra" was first used to refer to a dance floor in a Greek theatre.

The Greeks also used dance for the physical training of soldiers. The Romans copied the Greeks, but their dances became wild and distorted. At first, Christians used dances in worship rituals, but after the Romans perverted the dance, it was banned from church services. In the countries of the East, they also resorted to the help of dance to express religious feelings.

One of the most significant forms of dance originated in the mists of time - it's folk dance. A dance created by people of a certain religion, which has become traditional and passed down from generation to generation. Modern dances originate in folk and ballroom dance, which came from the halls of England.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Why can fruits ripen on their own?

One of the phytohormones synthesized by plants, ethylene gas, contributes to the ripening of fruits, and it is formed even if the fruit has already been plucked from the branch. Therefore, fruits are harvested unripe before long-term transportation, and they ripen on their own on the road. And for a controlled process, fruits are placed in chambers where ethylene is forcibly supplied. Already ripe fruits release even more gas, which can be used to speed up the ripening of unripe fruits at home, simply by putting them in one bag.

The habit of touching your face is inherent in nature. 18.04.2024

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a number of changes in daily life, including new ways of looking at habits we take for granted. One such habit that has come under the microscope of researchers is unconscious face touching. Surprisingly, this habit has roots deep in human evolution and general primate biology. We don't always realize how often we touch our face. Despite medical concerns about hygiene and recommendations during the pandemic, this gesture remains part of our everyday behavior. Israeli researchers, trying to understand why we do this so often, turned their attention to aspects of our general biology. Research shows that primates, including humans, spend significant time smelling their hands and also touching their faces. Scientists note that this habit is rooted in evolutionary adaptations associated with communication and social relationships in a community. Smells play an important role in the lives of primates, including humans. ... >>

Mining as a heating system 18.04.2024

Finland, a country with a harsh climate, has always looked for innovative ways to provide heating. In recent years, they have begun using exhaust heat from industrial processes, including Bitcoin mining, to reduce costs and carbon emissions. District heating systems, such as those in Finland, supply multiple buildings with heat from a single source, making them efficient and convenient. However, until recently, the main heat sources for these systems were biomass, coal, natural gas and other types of fuel, often expensive and negatively affecting the environment. Finland faces the challenge of reducing its carbon emissions and fuel costs. The solution was found in using the heat generated by industrial processes, and here Bitcoin mining plays a key role. Local companies have already integrated mining farms with district heating facilities and plan to use high-temperature water from miners to provide systems ... >>

Virtual mobile operator Google Project Fi 29.04.2015

Google has announced the launch of a new large-scale project called Fi: from now on, the search giant begins to provide high-quality mobile communication services.

Google becomes a virtual cellular operator using the communications infrastructure of Sprint and T-Mobile. However, in addition to cellular communications, Wi-Fi wireless networks are also involved. Thanks to such a hybrid system, the subscriber receives the maximum available bandwidth at any time. For example, if there is a hotspot nearby, the mobile device works via a Wi-Fi channel, and far from the access point, it switches to the fourth-generation LTE mobile network.

Google notes that the system's database contains information about more than 1 million free Wi-Fi hotspots, tested for reliability and speed. The transmitted information is encrypted to ensure a high level of security (VPN technology is used). Switching between Wi-Fi and LTE networks can be done without interrupting the current communication session. If necessary, work via Wi-Fi can be disabled to transfer data exclusively via the mobile network.

Currently, only a Nexus 6 smartphone can be used to connect to Project Fi, and a special SIM card is required for operation. It is important to note that the subscriber number is stored in the network cloud, which allows you to use different devices. At the current stage, the service is available only in the United States, and even then by invitation only.

There is only one tariff plan in the Project Fi system - The Fi Basics. For $20 per month, subscribers get unlimited minutes for voice calls and unlimited text messages in their home region, as well as unlimited text messages to other countries. In addition, "low-cost" international calls and tethering are available. Traffic is charged at the rate of $10 per 1 GB. Moreover, money for unused megabytes is returned: say, if 0,2 GB was downloaded in a month, the user will be able to return $8.

If the subscriber of the network travels outside the United States, he can still use the connection (the service operates in more than 120 countries). In this case, voice calls are charged at the rate of 20 cents per minute of conversation. At the same time, the cost of Internet traffic does not change: 1 GB will cost $10, however, the speed is limited to 256 kbps.
