Did you know?

Who wrote the first opera?

Do you like TV westerns? They are popular with many. But can you imagine someone being enamored with the same western year after year for decades?

However, there is one kind of art that people enjoy in this way. This is opera. Perhaps opera is so popular because it is pleasing to both the ear and the eye. An opera is a play in which the parts are sung rather than recited.

The main parts are performed by soloists, but there is also a choir. The orchestra plays independently at the beginning of the opera and before each new act. He accompanies the singers and the action of the opera. The music played before the start of an opera is called an overture or prelude.

There are two types of solo parts in the opera. The aria is like a long song. Recitative sounds like recitation to music. The complete content of an opera is called a libretto. The score is the music for the opera, recorded in its entirety. Many operas have added ballet.

The year 1600 is considered to be the beginning of the opera. This year, the Italian composer Zhdakopo Peri wrote the opera "Eurydice", which was performed at the wedding of the French King Henry IV. From this we can conclude that opera has been a popular form of entertainment for four hundred years.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

American solar power 15.01.2005

American engineers have begun testing a system for generating electricity, which consists of small solar power plants.

Our system, unlike the existing ones, consists of small modules, and the power plant can be put into operation gradually," says Chuck Andarka, project manager from the Sandia National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy. Actually, it was at the site of this laboratory that tests of the system began, consisting of six modules, which were made by the second participant of the project - the company "Stirling Energy Systems Inc.".

One module consists of 82 small mirrors placed on a bowl-shaped aluminum honeycomb structure. These mirrors focus sunlight onto an absorber. That turns light into heat and transfers it to the engine cylinder, where hydrogen is located - expanding when heated, it moves the piston and converts heat into mechanical energy, and then into electrical energy. The conversion efficiency is quite good - 30%.

"Basically, a 25-by-150-mile solar field somewhere in Arizona will power the entire country," says CEO Bob Linden. should fall to 50 thousand, and then the project of solar energy fields will be competitive."

By the way, experiments with similar solar power plants, which were carried out in the Soviet era in the desert Crimea, showed that, in addition to energy, mirrors provide a good environmental effect. In the shade below them, favorable conditions arise for the revival of life - grass begins to grow there, and in such quantity that it is quite enough to feed small useful animals like domestic goats.
