Why is there a traffic light on the narrowest street in Prague?

In Prague, there is a passage between houses 70 centimeters wide, in which a real traffic light hangs. But it does not work for cars, but so that passers-by walking from different ends of the street do not bump into each other. Some sources call this passage Vinarna Chertovka Street, but this is not an official street - it's just that the nearby beer "Devil" was advertising itself in this way.

What invention did the US military demonstrate in 1881 by blowing up this donkey?

In 1878, a technology was invented that made it possible to capture a frame on photographic film with almost no delay. After 3 years, an employee of the American military institute was given the task of destroying the useless donkey, and the military decided to do it for the "benefit for science" - to blow up the donkey's head and fix it with a quick picture. The detonator of the donkey-tethered explosive was simultaneously connected to the camera shutter. The experiment was a success: the device clearly recorded the moment of the explosion of the donkey's head.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Chimpanzee as the pinnacle of evolution 20.09.2007

It's time to stop thinking that man is the pinnacle of evolution. In fact, chimpanzees are a more "advanced" species.

A group of geneticists from the University of Michigan (USA) studied the DNA sequences in 13 human, chimpanzee and rhesus macaque genes. It turned out that 888 chimpanzee genes have been changed by natural selection since humans and chimpanzees split from a common ancestor about 233 million years ago. Of the human genes, only 6 have changed since then.

So the evolution of chimpanzees went further than ours. Doesn't this mean that monkeys will become smarter than humans after a while?
