What causes a headache?

The answer to this question could be: anything! A headache can start for a hundred reasons. But this is not a disease, but a symptom. In this way, we know that something is wrong with us - in some part of the body or nervous system.

Of course, we know something about the mechanism of headache formation. She herself appears due to a certain structure of the skull. It is not the very substance of the brain that is sensitive to pain, but what covers it - various veins and arteries. When they "ache", then there is a headache. Pain in the teeth, ears, muscles can affect the brain area and cause a headache. Compression of the muscles of the head can also lead to the same consequences.

When people complain about a headache, you can notice that everyone names their own reason. So, some people have a headache when they are hungry, others - without a cup of coffee drunk in the morning or with a hangover. What happens in all these cases? The cranial arteries narrow or expand - this is the cause of the headache. It is known as vascular headache.

With a strong shock or a sudden turn of the head, a person may complain of a headache. There is nothing special in these cases either. If a person experiences great emotional stress, then this leads to the fact that the muscles of the back, lower part of the head and neck are compressed. Result? Headache!

Migraine is a special type of headache that is very different from others. But as you can see, headaches have many, many causes!

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Is it true that in 1971 a tribe isolated from the rest of the world for thousands of years was discovered in the Philippines?

In 1971, sensational news spread around the world: the Tasadai tribe was found in the Philippine jungle, which had no contact with other people for thousands of years and actually lived in the Stone Age. The Philippine authorities immediately declared the territory protected in order to preserve the unique tribe for the interests of science. But in 1986, a group of journalists who illegally entered this territory stated that there was no one in the Tasadai caves, and all this was a big hoax: the primitive tribe was "played" by peasants from a village nearby. A few years later, a new refutation came out: the same "peasants" said that it was the second time they were bribed and forced to tell a lie, and the truth turned out to be neither one nor the other: the Tasadai tribe actually led a primitive lifestyle and was in isolation, but not thousands of years.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Tobacco and carrots are incompatible 11.03.2000

Studies conducted at the University of Bologna (Italy) and the University of Texas (USA) have shown that beta-carotene, which is contained in carrots, tomatoes and other vegetables and usually protects cells from malignant degeneration, is harmful to smokers.

In recent years, beta-carotene has been available in pill form, on its own or in addition to vitamins, and doctors recommend taking such pills. It turned out that beta-carotene reacts in the body of a smoker with carcinogens present in tobacco smoke, and itself turns into a carcinogen.

A study of 29 smokers found that those who took beta-carotene were 18 percent more likely to develop cancer.
