How do we grow?

All living things grow and develop: both in shape, size, how it is made, and in its purpose and capabilities.

The most important forces that cause growth are contained within a living being from the moment of its inception. These forces are called heredity. Animals, including humans, have stages of growth and development. These include: the embryonic and uterine state, infancy, childhood, youth, maturity and old age.

In some creatures, one can hardly speak of the period of infancy. For example, there are birds that can fly as soon as they hatch. A guinea pig is able to take care of itself three days after birth. But a person is not an adult until about 20 years old.

At birth, a baby already has all the nerve cells that a person is supposed to have: cells of the brain and spinal cord and those that penetrate into all parts of his body. The development of connections between these nerve cells helps him learn to control his movements, learn about the world and behave in a way that is accepted in his society.

So, all people are very similar in their development. But there are also important differences. Both boys and girls develop, of course, along the same general path, but still each of them has his own path and his own speed of development.

In the first weeks of life, a person grows faster than ever. Even at the end of the first year of life, it develops more slowly. It grows at a moderate rate throughout childhood. Then again comes a period of intensive growth. For girls, this usually occurs at 11-13, for boys - at 12-14 years. They grow faster for a while until they reach their peak speed. Then growth slows down again until it stops altogether. This suggests that the person has reached the maximum size.

Growth in height and weight gain often occur alternately in a person. First, for some time, it develops in height, then in width. For many people, somewhere between the ages of 11 and 12, the so-called "chubby" period begins. But in the following years, they begin to catch up in growth, and fatness passes.
