Where do rheobatrachus frogs develop and where do they come from?

In Australian rheobatrachus frogs, the laid eggs are swallowed by the female. Eggs, and then tadpoles, develop in the mother's stomach, feeding on the secretions of its mucous membrane. The grown frogs gradually move into the oral cavity of the parent and finally come out of captivity to freedom.

Since the female cannot feed during the rearing period (otherwise she would have digested her young), her digestive glands are completely disabled during this period.

How many types of climate are there?

There are many different types of climate on Earth. By the way, climate is a combination of readings of temperature, humidity, wind and sunlight in a certain place for a certain period. The climates of the world can be classified according to the geographical latitude of a given area and the plants that grow there. Different types of plants require different amounts of moisture and heat for their growth. Therefore, the vegetation of a certain area tells us about the temperature and precipitation over a long period of time. Basically, there are five main types of climate, which are divided into many subtypes.

There are tropical, subtropical, mid-latitude, high-latitude and high-mountain climates. We find a tropical climate in areas between 30° north and 30° south latitude. Tropical rainforests (nearest the equator) are warm and humid all year round. In the tropical zone, there are: tropical humid continental climate; tropical savannahs, where the climate is too dry for forests; tropical steppes (where it is still drier) and tropical desert climate.

Subtropical climates prevail between 30 and 40 degrees north and south latitude. Here we meet the Mediterranean climate, which is characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, and a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and mild winters, with sufficient rainfall in all seasons, which is favorable for the growth of forests. The mid-latitude climate is typical for the zone between 40 and 60 degrees north and south latitude. This includes the maritime climate of the west coast of North America, cool steppe and cool desert climates, and humid continental climates, each with different vegetation and rainfall.

High-latitude climates are characteristic of the zone from 60 degrees north and south latitude to the poles. It is very cold here in winter and cool in summer. On this territory there is a taiga climate region (where it is very cold in winter), a tundra climate, on the territory of which only grasses, mosses and lichens can grow, and a polar climate, where only huge glaciers exist. Alpine climate is typical for areas high in the mountains throughout the Earth, including the equator.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

A battery powered by hemoglobin has been developed 10.02.2024

Scientists at the University of Cordoba in Spain have developed a prototype battery that runs on hemoglobin, a key component of red blood cells. The new device is capable of operating for 20-30 days, providing a promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries.

The development of a hemoglobin-based battery represents a significant step in the development of bioengineering and energy. This innovative solution opens up the prospect of creating more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy sources suitable for various fields, including medicine and electronics.

Zinc-air batteries are one of the more environmentally friendly options compared to the commonly used lithium-ion batteries. They work through an oxygen reduction reaction involving zinc oxidation at the anode and oxygen reduction at the cathode.

Scientists have turned their attention to hemoglobin as a potentially effective catalyst for this reaction. Hemoglobin, the protein responsible for transporting oxygen in the body, has unique properties necessary to catalyze the chemical reaction in the battery.

The prototype battery demonstrated impressive performance, capable of maintaining functionality for several weeks with just 0,165 mg of hemoglobin. This opens up the prospect of using similar batteries in implantable medical devices such as pacemakers due to their biocompatibility and similarity to conditions in the body.

However, several technical limitations need to be addressed before industrial application. In particular, it is necessary to search for a protein that can ensure the regeneration of oxygen and resume the reaction, as well as the development of methods for recharging the battery. It is also worth considering that the use of oxygen-based batteries may be limited in space applications.
