Eat pineapples, chew grouse, your last day is coming, bourgeois

Mayakovsky V.V.
Mayakovsky V.V.

Phraseologism: Eat pineapples, chew grouse, your last day is coming, bourgeois.

Meaning: Quoted as a playfully ironic threat to someone.

Origin: Couplet (1917) by Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky (1893-1930), which he later included in his poem "Vladimir Ilyich Lenin" (1924). The poet later wrote ("Only not memories ...") that he composed this poem even before the October Revolution of 1917 - "to the beat of some rollicking music" when he was sitting at a table in the Petrograd artistic cabaret "Comedians' Halt" . “This couplet,” the poet wrote, “became my favorite verse: the St. Petersburg newspapers of the first days of October wrote that the sailors went to the Winter Palace, singing some song: Eat pineapples ... etc.”

Random phraseology:

Slavic debauchery.

Meaning:

About the lack of will, self-discipline, consistency in achieving one's goal, as well as the ability to set this goal for oneself (jokingly ironic).

Origin:

The expression was born in the camp of Russian Westernizers, when they conducted their well-known polemic with the Slavophiles. It became popular after I.S. Turgenev (1818-1883), who also considered himself a Westerner, used it in his story "Asya" (1858).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
