An audible alarm allows the user to quickly respond to an emergency if, during experiments with various equipment, an overload of the power source occurs. The power supply circuit with a sound stabilizer is shown in the figure.

The rectifier on diodes VD1-VD4 is powered by a transformer, the secondary winding of which is designed for a voltage of 18 V at a current of at least 1A. The adjustable voltage regulator is made on transistors VT2-VT5 according to a well-known scheme.

Variable resistor R3 at the output can be set to a voltage from 0 to + 15V. The signaling device, designated as A1, is an audio frequency generator with an acoustic emitter connected to it (speaker, piezoelectric emitter, etc.). Its schematic diagram is not given, since the designer can choose a more acceptable "soundtrack" for him (tonal frequency, siren, multi-tone trill, melody, imitator of various sounds). The diagram of the device shows only the key that controls the operation of the signaling device on the transistor VT1.

The load current of the subject (device under test) passes through the resistor R2, creating a voltage drop across it. While the current is small (with the selected value of this resistor no more than 0,3A), transistor VT1 is closed. As the current consumption increases (and, accordingly, the voltage across the resistor increases), the transistor approaches the opening threshold.

When the voltage between the base and emitter VT1 reaches 0,7V, it opens and, with a further increase in current, goes into saturation.

When the transistor is opened, the rectified voltage is supplied to the acoustic signaling device and turns it on.

Transistors BC237 are interchangeable with KT639V, BC327 - with KT361B, BD283 - with KT815A. Instead of diodes 1N4001, rectifier diodes KD212B or bridge KTs405E are suitable. KS515A should be used as a zener diode. The power dissipation of the resistor R2 is taken with some margin, for example, 1W.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Industrial printing micromachines 18.02.2013

Nanoscribe GmbH, a subsidiary of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, has introduced a technology for the mass production of micrometric structures.

The new laser 3D printer allows to print micro- and nanostructures necessary for many high-tech breakthrough technologies with high precision and speed. With this printer, you can print volumetric structures smaller than the diameter of a human hair. And print very quickly and on an industrial scale.

The new technology uses a laser lithography method based on two-photon polymerization. Ultrashort laser pulses polymerize photosensitive materials and do not affect non-photosensitive materials. Then both materials are separated and the finished micro-detail is removed. This uses equipment similar to a DVD drive, which controls the laser beam using a rotating mirror. This allows microstructures to be printed 100 times faster than with current technologies. High resolution makes it possible to create nanoscale objects, although the beam scanning area is physically limited to a few hundred micrometers. However, the parts can be interconnected with high precision, so that it is possible to produce quite large microstructures.

The developers of the new technology hope that their laser printer will enable the mass production of a new generation of photonics and electronics: with greater performance and less power consumption.
