PIONEER car system with hard drive

29.06.2004

Pioneer introduced the Carrozzeria HDD (Cyber Navi) in-car navigation system, equipped with a 30 GB Toshiba removable hard drive.

The hard drive can be inserted into the Living Kit system, connected to the Internet, connected to a TV or other equipment. Users can create travel itineraries or record their favorite music on the hard drive. The new system also has a traffic jam prediction function. The hard drive has a database of past traffic conditions, analyzed seasonally, by time of day, day of the week, and other indicators.

The system can issue traffic maps with predicted traffic levels for a specific date and time and suggest the best traffic plan based on past and current traffic information. The AVIC-ZH900MD has a 7-inch touch panel and DVD/MD/CD drives. Its price is about $3500.

The other model AVIC-ZH900 is similar to the AVIC-ZH900MD but without the MD player and costs around $3300.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Electricity from clothes 31.10.2020

Scientists in Switzerland have found a way to generate electricity using wear-resistant polymers applied to clothing.

Until now, solar concentrators have only existed in the form factor of rigid, airtight cells. This made them unsuitable for use in the structure of textile materials. But now everything has changed. The discovery made by Swiss scientists is based on materials that are able to use even scattered light to generate energy.

These materials contain luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs) that capture ambient light and transfer its energy to a solar cell, which then in turn converts the light into electrical energy. The discovery was made by a research team led by Luciano Boesel from the Biomimetic Membrane and Textile Laboratory of the Swiss Federal Laboratory for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA).

It was they who found a way to incorporate these luminescent materials into a polymer fabric that is flexible and breathable. This new material is based on the properties of linear and hyperbranched amphiphilic block copolymers, which are already on the market in the form of silicon hydrogel contact lenses.

With the help of colleagues specializing in photo-energy and fibers, Luciano Bozel's team was able to turn it into a flexible solar concentrator. Amphiphilicity (otherwise diphilicity) is a property of molecules of substances, usually organic, that have both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties, that is, under certain conditions they pass water, and under certain conditions they repel.

The new solar concentrator can be used to create textile fibers without the textile becoming brittle and susceptible to cracking or water vapor accumulating in the form of sweat. Body-worn solar power concentrators offer us huge promises and benefits in the ever-increasing demand for mobile energy sources for portable gadgets and devices.
