Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. GaeaStar disposable tableware will decompose into dust 10.01.2024

GaeaStar, based in San Francisco and Berlin, is introducing its innovative pottery as an eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastic. Based on the principles of geoneutrality, these thin and durable containers are thriving in the food processing industry, providing convenience and efficiency.

Clay, water and salt are just three ingredients that make up this unique tableware, created using advanced 3D printing. The idea behind geoneutrality is that it is not only environmentally friendly, but also degrades to dust after use, minimizing human footprint on the planet.

Sanjeev Mankotia, founder of GaeaStar, was inspired by ancient Indian culture, where biodegradable bowls were a common feature. He sees his pottery as a unique combination of sustainability and disposable convenience. The manufacturing process has become innovative, with the first microfactory in Berlin launching in 2022 and the construction of a new factory in the US thanks to $6,5 million in funding.

Eco-consciousness and practicality come together in this pottery, creating a path towards a more sustainable future. The upcoming thousands and millions of GaeaStar cups promise to be a landmark step towards respecting nature.
