William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare

Phraseologism: There is the bitter bread of exile.

Meaning: About nostalgia, homesickness, about the feelings of a person who, for one reason or another, cannot return there.

Origin: From Richard III by William Shakespeare (1564-1616), words by Bolingbroke (act. 3).

Random phraseology:

The root of evil.

Meaning:

Origin, cause of evil.

Origin:

From the Bible. In the Old Testament, in the Book of Job (19:28), it is told about the pious Job, whom God subjected to severe trials. Perplexed by the misfortunes that have befallen him for no reason, Job says to the people persecuting him: "You ought to say, 'Why are we persecuting him?' As if the root of evil had been found in me." There is a similar expression in the New Testament (First Epistle to Timothy of the Holy Apostle Paul, 6:9-10): “But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish and harmful lusts that plunge people into disaster and destruction, for the love of money is the root of all evil, which, having indulged, some have deviated from the faith and subjected themselves to many sorrows.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Electrostatic fly trap 15.05.2002

Walking on carpet, especially synthetic carpet, builds up an electrostatic charge on the body, so that touching grounded objects causes a spark.

This effect can be used to control flies and other insects. The idea belongs to two researchers from England and the USA.

If you force a fly to run a few steps across a dielectric coating, an electrostatic charge will accumulate on its paws. After passing through the powder from the spores of a fungus that is deadly to insects, the fly will attract these spores and soon die. You can also use insecticide powder - it will act faster than the fungus, but from an environmental point of view, this is undesirable. The result of the experiments was a scientific article called "Triboelectrification of house flies."

Experiments have shown that the best static charge is formed when flies walk on polyvinyl chloride. To lure insects to this path, a pheromone can be introduced into the plastic - an odorous substance that is attractive to one or another type of insect. The charge reaches saturation after the fly runs 30 centimeters.
