"Chapaev"

Phraseologism: I didn't go through the academies. I didn't finish them.

Meaning: It is used jokingly and ironically, as a formula for an apology for an inaccuracy, ignorance of something, etc.

Origin: From the film "Chapaev" (1934), filmed by the Soviet directors the Vasiliev brothers according to their own script. Words by Chapaev (actor Boris Babochkin). "The Vasilyev Brothers" is a creative pseudonym under which directors of the same name Georgy Nikolayevich Vasiliev (1899-1946) and Sergei Dmitrievich Vasiliev (1900-1959) worked.

Random phraseology:

No brainer.

Meaning:

Very simple.

Origin:

1. The source of the expression "And a no-brainer" is a poem by Mayakovsky ("It is clear even a no-brainer - / This Petya was a bourgeois"). 2. The expression was widely used first in the Strugatsky story "The Land of Crimson Clouds", and then in Soviet boarding schools for gifted children. They recruited teenagers who had two years left to study (grades A, B, C, D, E) or one year (grades E, F, I). The students of the one-year stream were called so - "hedgehogs". When they came to the boarding school, "two-year students" were already ahead of them in a non-standard program, so at the beginning of the school year the expression "no brainer" was very relevant.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Laptop for $100 11.01.2006

The slogan "A laptop for every child" perfectly fits the spirit of One Laptop Per Child, a non-profit project in which the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) developed the concept of a $100 laptop designed to equip educational institutions.

It is designed in such a way as to provide maximum strength, versatility and self-sufficiency. For example, the AC adapter cord doubles as a strap for carrying the device. In addition, it is equipped with a hand-operated electric generator (a minute of winding gives an average of 10 minutes of computer operation).

The display can be folded in several ways, rather than one, as in conventional laptops. To improve visibility outdoors, it is possible to switch the screen from color mode to high-contrast black and white.

Some key specifications are already known: the device will be equipped with an AMD processor with a clock speed of 500 MHz, flash memory instead of a hard drive and a Linux operating system.
