Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Stem cells - generators of hair follicles 28.03.2015

Although baldness is not given to everyone and, therefore, serves as a kind of distinction, many are eager to get rid of it. At the service of those who wish - surgical hair transplantation in all its variety of modifications.

However, science does not stand still, and now tissue engineering experts have proposed using stem cells that are now fashionable to restore hairline. Biotechnologists from the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in La Jolla, California, led by Dr. Alexei Terskikh, have turned stem cells into dermal papilla cells that regulate the formation of hair follicles and hair growth. By themselves, such cells cannot be propagated - outside the human body, they quickly die.

Thus, in the hands of cosmetologists there was an unlimited source of cells for subsequent implantation. And given the fact that cell reprogramming now allows you to turn skin cells into anything, further development of the technology may allow you to do without stem cells. The efficiency of the method was tested on mice - accustomed cells gave good hair.

Now the researchers hope to get funding to continue human experiments.
