Homo Sovieticus

the USSR
the USSR

Phraseologism: Homo Sovieticus.

Meaning: It is used as an ironic synonym for the Soviet person.

Origin: The expression became popular thanks to the philosopher and publicist Alexander Alexandrovich Zinoviev (b. 1922), who called his book (1982), devoted to the analysis of the worldview of the Soviet person, in this way. The expression is a neologism composed of the Latin word homo (man) and the Latinized epithet "Soviet".

Random phraseology:

One swallow does not make spring.

Meaning:

About false or insufficient signs of something.

Origin:

From the fable of the ancient Greek fabulist Aesop (VI century BC) about a young man who squandered all his father's inheritance. Of it, he kept only a cloak, in which he wrapped himself in winter. And when he saw the first swallow that arrived, he decided that now he did not need it either, since spring had come. But the frosts hit, the swallow died, and it became clear that the young man was cruelly mistaken in hastening to part with a warm cloak. On the same plot, I. A. Krylov wrote the fable "Mot and Swallow" (1818), in which this expression is called a folk proverb: "Yes, he just forgot the proverb among the people: / That a swallow alone does not make spring."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Weeding video camera 06.03.2011

Norwegian engineers have created a "smart" sprayer that, using video cameras equipped with image recognition software, recognizes weeds and sprays herbicide only on them, and not on cultivated plants. Chemicals are saved and environmental pollution is reduced.

Before processing the bullet, photographs of the most common weeds in a given place must be stored in the memory of the device.
