Take on the zugunder

German
German

Phraseologism: Take on the zugunder.

Meaning: To subject to punishment, to bring to account (obsolete).

Origin: The origin of the phraseologism is associated with the times of German drill in the Russian army, and the zugunder is a distorted "zu hundert", which literally means "to a hundred" (strike) and is an order to punish the offender. However, there is another version, according to which zugunder is a distorted German "zu Hunden" (literally "to the dogs", in a swearing sense).

Random phraseology:

Westernism.

Meaning:

About the Russian tradition, the followers of which blindly intend to adopt the norms, customs, social innovations of Western civilization, which in themselves (in the West) are good, but grafted on Russian soil, often turn into their opposite and exacerbate the flaws of Russian life, copying the external aspects of Western civilization .

Origin:

The term is first encountered in Russian culture in the 40s. XIX century., In particular, in the "Memoirs" of Ivan Ivanovich Panaev (vol. II, 5). The term began to be used frequently after K. S. Aksakov’s break with V. G. Belinsky in 1840. Two groups of writers were formed - Slavophiles (see Slavophilism), who began to talk about the “special path of Russia” (I. S. Aksakov, I. V. Kireevsky, Yu.F. Belinsky, K. D. Kavelin, N. Kh. Ketcher and others. The latter insisted on the need for Russia to follow the path of Western civilization, especially in the field of social organization, civil life, and culture. Westerners were characterized by a special interest in the achievements of the latest Western European thought (philosophy of Hegel, Feuerbach, etc.). Subsequently, two main currents of Russian social thought, characteristic of the XNUMXth century, would develop from "Westernism" - the liberal-democratic and the communist.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Atomic clock on quantum entanglement 17.12.2020

To date, atomic clocks are the most accurate timepieces on Earth. The best devices of this type will be only a second behind in 15 billion years. However, in the future, scientists may need even more accurate timepieces to conduct research and control spacecraft. Conventional atomic clocks have a limit to the accuracy of time measurement. It is limited by quantum fluctuations that interfere with tracking the vibrations of atoms.

Atomic clocks use lasers to measure the vibration frequency of atoms. The period of these oscillations is so stable that its measurement allows you to count time with incredible accuracy. For example, the cesium-133 atom vibrates exactly 9 times per second, and atomic clocks based on this element are used to calculate world time.

Now physicists have been able to make such chronometers even more accurate. To do this, scientists have collected a cloud of 350 cooled atoms of ytterbium-171, the oscillation frequency of which is even higher than that of cesium-133, and placed them in an optical cavity. Then a laser was directed at the resonator, which made it possible to create quantum entanglement between the atoms. This means that now these particles have become connected: when the state of one atom changes, the state of the one associated with it automatically changes.

Once the atoms were entangled, the scientists fired a second laser into the cloud. With it, the researchers illuminated it to measure the average vibration frequency of atoms. It turned out that quantum entanglement increases the accuracy of atomic clocks by four times. According to the results of the work, in 13,8 billion years, such devices will lag behind the reference time by less than 100 milliseconds.
