Sweeping water movements

Bible
Bible

Phraseologism: Tearing movements of water.

Meaning: About those who expect certain blessings for themselves, believing that they should appear by themselves, without labor, from heaven, "God's providence" (iron.).

Origin: From the Bible. The Gospel of John (5:2-4) tells of the miraculous pool of Bethesda (in Hebrew: the house of mercy) in Jerusalem, to which five covered corridors led. “In them lay a great multitude of sick, blind, lame, withered, looking forward (that is, waiting) for the movement of water ... The angel of the Lord at times descended into the font and disturbed the water, and whoever entered it first after the disturbance of the water, he recovered.”

Random phraseology:

Green snake.

Meaning:

About alcohol (disapproved).

Origin:

The expression arose on the basis of the folk-poetic turnover "green wine", where the wine is named after the color of the product from which it is made. Realizing the harm of alcohol, they began to call him the green snake.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The steering will determine driver fatigue 29.04.2014

The operation of most existing or planned driver fatigue recognition systems is based on the use of video cameras and (or) special infrared sensors.

Such complexes follow the face of a motorist, analyzing the position of the eyes, nose, mouth and other parts of the face. In addition, the frequency of blinking and the duration of the time intervals during which the eyelids are closed are monitored. If the electronics detect a low concentration level of the driver or signs of falling asleep, an alarm will be given.

However, such systems are quite expensive, which does not allow them to be used in large numbers. Now researchers from Washington State University Spokane (USA) have proposed a technology that can be a low-cost alternative to existing fatigue monitoring systems.

The idea is to monitor the condition of the motorist by the intensity and nature of steering wheel deviations. To test the system, a special driving simulator was used, which captures almost 90 very different indicators related to speed, acceleration, braking, changing lanes, car turns, etc.

About 30 people participated in the study: for the appearance of signs of fatigue, they had to simulate working the night shift.

It turned out that tracking changes in the position of the steering wheel and the nature of its deviations makes it possible to identify signs of driver fatigue at an early stage with high accuracy. For the system to work, it is enough to install inexpensive sensors on the steering wheel, which can be done at a car factory or at a service center.

The researchers have already received a patent for the proposed solution.
