Shield on the gates of Tsaregrad

Pushkin A.S.
Pushkin A.S.

Phraseologism: Shield on the gates of Tsaregrad.

Meaning: The phrase is a symbol of an aggressive, partly adventurous campaign.

Origin: From "The Song of the Prophetic Oleg" (1822) by A. S. Pushkin (1799-1837). The sorcerer - "a magician, a favorite of the gods" - addresses the Kyiv prince Oleg: "Remember my word now: // Glory to the Warrior is a joy, // Your name is glorified by victory: // Your shield is on the gates of Tsaregrad, // And the waves and the land is submissive to you, / The enemy is jealous of such a wondrous fate. A. S. Pushkin based his work on ancient stories about how the Kyiv prince Oleg nailed his shield on the gates of Constantinople (which the Russians called Constantinople) - to commemorate his victory over Byzantium, whose capital was Constantinople. This image received a second life during the First World War, when part of the Russian press began to actively use it, thus figuratively denoting the strategic goal of Russia's participation in this war - not the capture of the Turkish capital of Istanbul (the former Constantinople - Pushkin's "Tsargrad"), but the mastery of the straits Bosporus and Dardanelles. In this case, the Russian fleet could freely leave the Black Sea for the Mediterranean Sea and beyond. An ardent supporter of the idea of mastering the straits was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Provisional Government, P.N. Potemkin Tauride.

Random phraseology:

Sprinkle with mud.

Meaning:

Insult.

Origin:

It goes back to the opposition "clean - dirty" - to one of the oldest forms of understanding the world. The word "dirt" correlates with the subject-natural code of culture: it originally meant "evil" (i.e., earlier the expression "pouring mud" meant "letting in evil spirits"), but it was reinterpreted by modern cultivated consciousness as likening the actions of a person deliberately pouring water on another person impurities that stain it, the role of a symbol that replaces the idea of moral impurity.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

TP-Link EAP610 Ceiling Access Point 01.10.2021

TP-Link has launched the new TP-Link EAP610 Ceiling Access Point to the market.

The most important advantage of TP-Link EAP610 is the high speed provided by the new product, which, thanks to the Wi-Fi 6 standard, is up to 574 Mbps in the 2,4 GHz band and up to 1201 Mbps in the 5 GHz band. Thus, the total connection speed reaches 1775 Mbps. Support for Band Steering technology is noted, which automatically switches dual-band devices to a faster frequency of 5 GHz.

The EAP610 model integrates with the Omada system, designed to centrally manage a wireless network locally or via the cloud. This is possible through the web interface or using the proprietary Omada application. The device also supports Omada Mesh technology. This means that a stable connection between access points will remain even in the absence of a cable connection.

The PoE+ capabilities make the EAP610 easier and more convenient to install and connect by eliminating the need for additional outlets for the power adapter.

The administrator will be able to set up a secure guest network by providing several authentication methods - for example, via SMS, Facebook or a voucher. In this case, only authorized users will have access to the network, and the ability to customize the login page and place ads on it will help the business. Support for the WPA3 Enhanced Open standard is also provided, which will provide increased security when connecting to previously unsecured public Wi-Fi networks.

The price of new items is $149.
