Facts are a stubborn thing

Alain Rene Lesage
Alain Rene Lesage

Phraseologism: Facts are a stubborn thing.

Meaning: Something that cannot be refuted.

Origin: From English: "Facts are stubborn". From the English translation of the book of the French writer Alain-Rene Lesage "The History of Gilles Blaze" (1734). So the translator of this novel, Tobias George Smollet (1721-1771), translated the well-known expression of the novel "Lesfaits parlent!" "The facts speak for themselves."

Random phraseology:

Seek and find.

Meaning:

Get your way, your perseverance will be rewarded.

Origin:

From the Bible (Church Slavonic text). The Gospel of Matthew (7:7-8) says (Russian translation): "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you, for everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened ". The same is said in the Gospel of Luke (11:9): "And I will say to you: ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." Often these words of Jesus are quoted in Church Slavonic: "Seek and you will find, push and it will be opened" (seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
