Mind palace

Proverbs and sayings
Proverbs and sayings

Phraseologism: Uma Chamber.

Meaning: About a stupid person (often ironic).

Origin: The word "chamber" in the Old Russian language meant a large room in a stone building. Then it began to be applied to various institutions located in such vast buildings: the Armory, the Faceted Chamber ... All kinds of meetings usually took place in the chambers, the boyars in them "thought the sovereign's Duma." Hence the expression "mind chamber" arose, which depicted a person who was equal in mind to the whole assembly of sages. In the future, however, it acquired an ironic meaning: now they say this more often about fools than about smart people.

Random phraseology:

They argue, make noise and disperse.

Meaning:

An ironic commentary on empty, meaningless conversations, discussions.

Origin:

From the comedy "Woe from Wit" (1824) by A. S. Griboyedov (1795-1829). Famusov's words (act. 2, yavl. 5) about the old frondeurs who will find fault with "To this, to this, and more often to nothing, // They will argue, make some noise and ... disperse."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

American robot walked 23 km 335 m 28.09.2010

The Americans are known for their success in combat robotics: they have created robotic planes bombing Afghanistan and Iraq.

They say that a robot tank will appear soon, a robot fly will supply the squad leader with important information, and there it’s not far from a robot soldier. In any case, tests conducted at Cornell University (USA) showed that the robot can walk quite a decent distance, equal to the daily transition of an infantryman.

Cornell's walking robot is similar to a monkey in its mode of locomotion: it rests on the ground with both hands, brings two legs forward, then brings its arms forward, and the cycle repeats. Above the long limbs is a small body with brains, eyes and batteries - in proportion, the robot is similar to a haymaker spider.

During the tests conducted at the university stadium, the robot walked more than twenty-three kilometers on a single battery charge at a fast pace - support engineers had to almost run after their brainchild - after which, exhausted, he fell onto a treadmill.

Of course, the stadium is not rugged terrain, but these steps are the first.
