Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Edible adhesive tape 01.06.2022

A group of Johns Hopkins University students have developed what may be the world's first edible duct tape that will keep a burrito or shawarma from falling apart all the time.

Edible "gluer" was called "Tastee Tape". It consists of a "food grade fibrous scaffold and an organic adhesive" that ensures that the ingredients in the burrito don't fall out during cooking or while eating.

Tastee Tape can be used on any type of food, including tortillas, tacos and gyros.

Students are currently applying for a patent, so they cannot disclose the full composition of the duct tape. However, they note that "all the ingredients are safe to consume, the tape consists of foodstuffs and conventional nutritional and dietary supplements."

The product is supplied in pre-cut XNUMXcm strips attached to sheets of waxed paper. In order for it to become sticky, it is enough to put water on it.

Potentially edible glue can be used not only for rolls and burritos: for example, it can glue a cake or fix any culinary mistakes.
