You need such a cow yourself!

Mikhalkov S.V.
Mikhalkov S.V.

Phraseologism: You need such a cow yourself!

Meaning: about unwillingness to sell, give, give something to someone.

Origin: From the poem "How an old man sold a cow" by Sergei Mikhalkov (1913-2009). The simple-hearted old man turned out to be a bad salesman, because he could not praise his product at all. But it turned out great for one guy who took pity on the owner of the cow and decided to help him communicate with customers. The old man listened to how this voluntary assistant praised his cow, and he himself believed in its non-existent virtues. And I thought about selling it. In the original: "The old man looked at his cow: // - Why am I selling you, Burenka? // I won't sell my cow to anyone, // I need such a beast myself!"

Random phraseology:

Fear for the sake of the Jews.

Meaning:

Out of fear for their safety, out of fear of the authorities.

Origin:

From the Bible (Church Slavonic text). The New Testament (Gospel of John, 19:38) tells of Joseph of Arimathea, who, out of fear of the Jews ("fear for the sake of the Jews"), hid that he was a disciple of Jesus. Russian translation of the 38th verse: "After this, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus, but secret - out of fear from the Jews, asked Pilate to remove the body of Jesus, and Pilate allowed. He went and removed the body of Jesus."

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Purified water can become toxic 12.12.2023

A study conducted by scientists from the University of California at Berkeley and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore raises questions about the safety of purified water for humans. Scientists have come to the conclusion that almost all existing methods of purifying natural water, intended for further domestic use, are not capable of completely destroying harmful substances.

The scientific work emphasizes the importance of not only the water purification process, but also careful control of what substances are formed as a result of this process. Contrary to popular belief that purified water is always safe, scientists point out the potential risks of transformation of toxic elements during purification. This is a reminder of the need to continually improve water treatment methods and develop safer technologies to ensure reliable access to clean and safe water for everyone.

During the purification process, toxic elements undergo transformation, acquiring a new molecular structure, which makes them even more dangerous for the human body.

"During the water purification process, we are faced with the release of harmful substances. Sometimes these resulting substances resulting from purification turn out to be extremely toxic," said Dr. Carsten Prass.

One of the clear examples of such a transformation is phenol. This substance, widely used in manufacturing, is often found in natural water sources due to contamination from industrial waste. During the purification process, phenol particles undergo changes, becoming even more toxic.
