tabula rasa

Aristotle
Aristotle

Phraseologism: Tabula rasa.

Meaning: Pure mind, uncorrupted consciousness.

Origin: From Latin: Tabula rasa. It is first encountered by the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle (384-322 BC) as a designation of the original, "pure" state of human consciousness, that is, the consciousness of a child. The philosopher compares it with a waxed writing board, which was used in ancient Greece - tabula. On it, simply by smoothing the wax, it was easy to remove the previously written text and, having made it thus clean, write anything on it. So in the "pure" mind of the child, you can "write" everything that parents and teachers want. Then the English philosopher Locke (1632-1704) used this expression in the same sense and made it popular.

Random phraseology:

Found a scythe on a stone.

Meaning:

Unexpectedly serious obstacle.

Origin:

The proverb about stubborn unwillingness to give in to each other is formed from a comparison: to stumble upon something, as a scythe stumbles upon a stone.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
