The world consists of paradoxes - discoveries are made by those who simply do not know that it is impossible to do this, and they do ... and discover! Maybe there is something in the idea presented here? Theorists! Find an explanation for the fact. And please be indulgent. RX3AKT.

To improve the efficiency of FET mixers in the passive mode, a rectangular shape of control pulses is widely used. A more effective way to increase intelligibility, in my opinion, is to use narrow pulses, when the duration of a single state is hundredths and even thousandths of zero duration. (Nicely said, isn't it?) To the ear, this is perceived as a boost in high frequencies. The intelligibility of the speech signal is sharply increased. The frequency response becomes more even. The balanced modulator-detector, Fig. 1, is assembled according to the well-known scheme of A. Pogosov (see the magazine "Radio" No. 10-81).

Fig.1 Balanced modulator-demodulator (click to enlarge)

The control circuit contains a crystal oscillator assembled on a DD1 chip, a frequency divider by 4 (aka a phase shifter) - on the DD2 MS and a phase discriminator on the DD3 and DD4 MS. A square wave signal from a 1 MHz crystal oscillator is fed to a digital phase shifter (divided by 4). Two antiphase signals with a frequency of 250 kHz are taken from its output. It is known that in the antiphase signal there is always some error in the phase difference associated with the unstable operation of the phase shifter, which is detected by the phase discriminator.

The signal selected by the phase discriminator, proportional to the error of the phase shifter, is the reference frequency for the balanced modulator-detector, assembled on the field effect transistor VT1. At the same time, the second input of the modulator receives a speech signal from the microphone amplifier, if we are talking about the transmission path. Or an IF signal if the circuit is used as an SSB detector (demodulator). Shown in fig. 1 balanced modulator-demodulator operates at 500 kHz and works well at half the local oscillator frequency. It is possible to double the oscillator frequency by using a 2 MHz quartz resonator.

The method described above can be proposed to be tried in relation to balanced frequency converters (mixers) of transceiver equipment by replacing microcircuits with microwave ones.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Car tire with 5G connectivity 19.03.2020

The new Pirelli Cinturato P7 tire model is designed for premium cars and features improved wet performance, improved hydroplaning resistance and a 4-meter reduction in braking distance from 100 km/h.

According to the engineers of the Italian company, the use of new technologies in the Cinturato P7 has improved acoustic comfort and smoothness while driving, as well as increasing the life of new tires by 6%. In addition, the new tires have a 12% reduction in rolling resistance and a 4% improvement in fuel consumption (WLTP cycle), resulting in a reduction in CO2 emissions.

The new Pirelli Cinturato P7 is the first car tire to feature 5G connectivity, which will eventually enable the exchange of information collected by tires to warn drivers of dangerous road situations such as the risk of hydroplaning.

In addition, the Cinturato P7 features Run Flat and Seal Inside technologies that allow you to continue moving with a tire puncture, and there is also a version of the Elect tire specifically for electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids.

The Pirelli Cinturato P7 is released to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the famous Pirelli Cinturato tire.
