Blue Dream, Blue Flower
Maurice Maeterlinck
Phraseologism: Blue Dream, Blue Flower.
Meaning: An idyllic, often unattainable dream
Origin: According to one version, the expression appeared under the influence of the popular fairy tale play by M. Maeterlinck "The Blue Bird". According to another version, the turnover - an inaccurate tracing-paper from the German "die blauе Blume" - "blue flower", goes back to the novel by the German writer Novalis "Heinrich von Ofterdingen" (1802). The blue flower is a symbol of a high and unrealizable dream, dreamed of by a young poet.
Random phraseology:
Tooth by tooth.
Meaning:
A symbol of revenge, blood feud, etc.
Origin:
From the Bible. In the Old Testament (Leviticus, 24:19-20) it is said that in the code of laws for the Jews, God also established such a rule: "Whoever damages the body of his neighbor, he must do the same thing that he did. A fracture for a fracture, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth: as he did damage to the body of a man, so it must be done to him. It is also found in other places of the Old Testament (Deuteronomy, 19:21, Exodus 21:24). Although this covenant is found in the Bible - Holy Scripture, nevertheless, it cannot be attributed to the norms of proper Christian morality, bequeathed by Christ, since it condemns the revenge committed by man. This form of regulation of relations between people (tit for tat) was born in pre-Christian, Old Testament times. |

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food.
