Feast in Time of Plague

Pushkin A.S.
Pushkin A.S.

Phraseologism: Feast in Time of Plague.

Meaning: The careless, merry life of the few during public calamities (contempt., disapproval).

Origin: The name of the dramatic scenes (1832) by Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin (1799-1837), written by the poet based on the poem (1816) by the English poet John Wilson "The Plague City".

Random phraseology:

The war of all against all.

Meaning:

About enmity and competition, about the lack of solidarity and rules binding on everyone, about the transformation of society into a mass of individuals at war with each other.

Origin:

From Latin: Bellum omnium contra omnes. The concept of the social philosophy of Thomas Hobbes, describing the natural state of society before the conclusion of the "social contract" and the formation of the state. To substantiate his ideas about the state, Hobbes resorts to the already tested method of depicting the "state of nature." In it, all people are equal, and everyone is guided by their needs and interests. A person is selfish, he is endowed with strong passions, he desires power, wealth, pleasures. The principle of his behavior is extremely simple: a person seeks to receive as many benefits as possible and avoid suffering. Human freedom: everyone has the right to everything, even the life of another person. This leads to constant conflicts, to the impossibility of ensuring the public good and protecting oneself from evil. So there is a war of all against all.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
