Pavlik Morozov

Pavlik Morozov
Pavlik Morozov

Phraseologism: Pavlik Morozov.

Meaning: Traitor.

Origin: A household name for a person who betrays his own family, especially his father. Pavel Trofimovich Morozov (1918-1932) - a well-known communist pioneer who exposed the kulak conspiracy in which his own father participated, and gave accusatory evidence against him, saying that dad often raised his hand to his mother and children, and also engaged in falsification of documents. For this, in fact, he was killed when he went to pick berries. In Soviet times, Pavlik Morozov was a symbol of an ideal teenager who, for the sake of a communist future, puts both his family and his own interests on the back burner.

Random phraseology:

White slaves. White blacks.

Meaning:

Anyone exploited.

Origin:

The expression "white slaves", sometimes replaced in our country by the expression "white negroes", was applied in England, by analogy with the negroes exploited by the planters, to the workers of large industrial enterprises exploited by the capitalists. On the continent, the expression has spread since 1845, when F. Engels in the 6th chapter of the book "The Condition of the Working Class in England" wrote: "The humane Tories were right in calling factory workers white slaves" (K. Marx and F. Engels, Soch., vol. Ill, M.-L. 1930, p. 470). In the same 1845, this expression was picked up by the German novelist Adolf Wilck, who published the novel "White Slaves". This expression has become firmly established in the everyday life of socialist writers.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

paper batteries 21.12.2021

Scientists at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (NTU Singapore) have developed paper-thin and fully biodegradable zinc batteries that could one day become an environmentally friendly power source option for flexible and wearable electronic systems.

A square battery measuring 4x4 cm and only 0,4 mm thick can run a small electric fan for 45 minutes. Bending, twisting the battery, or even cutting off fragments of it did not lead to power outages.

In our research, scientists have shown an easier and cheaper way to manufacture batteries, producing one large piece of battery that is cut into desired shapes and sizes without loss of efficiency. These features make paper batteries ideal for integration into flexible electronics.

The manufacture of the battery begins with the reinforcement of cellulose paper with hydrogel, which fills the voids between the cellulose fibers. This forms a tight spacer to prevent mixing of the electrode ink printed on different sides of the cellulose paper.

Anode ink is mainly composed of zinc and black (conductive) carbon. Two types of inks have been developed for the cathode, manganese and nickel, but the research team believes other metals can be used.

After the electrodes are printed, the battery is immersed in the electrolyte. Then a thin layer of gold is applied to the electrodes to increase the conductivity of the battery.

Since hydrogel and cellulose are naturally broken down by fungi, bacteria and other microorganisms, a spent battery can simply be buried in the soil, where it will safely collapse in a few weeks. Anode zinc will change to a non-toxic hydroxide form, nickel and manganese will also become hydroxides or oxides, taking on the natural form in which they are present in minerals.
