There are no rules without exceptions

Lucius Annaeus Seneca the Younger
Lucius Annaeus Seneca the Younger

Phraseologism: There are no rules without exceptions.

Meaning: About the imperfection of rules and laws.

Origin: From Latin: "Nulla regula sine exceptione, sed exceptio non imperdit regulam". Translation: "There is no rule without an exception, but the exception does not interfere with the rule." The words of the Roman Stoic philosopher Seneca (Lucius Annei Seneca the Younger, c. 4 BC - 65 AD).

Random phraseology:

To the right of me - only a wall.

Meaning:

About the representative of radical views.

Origin:

Words (1916) of a landowner, a well-known nationalist, one of the founders of the Union of the Russian People, the organizer of the chamber of Mikhail the Archangel, an ultra-right deputy of the II-IV State Dumas from the Bessarabia province Vladimir Mitrofanovich Purishkevich (1870-1920). The phrase was also attributed to the Chief Prosecutor of the Holy Synod A. Shirinsky-Shikhmatov. The expression is probably borrowed from the political language of England at the end of the 1849th century. Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Wearable sensor warns of stroke risk 27.01.2015

Created by Samsung Electronics two years ago, the Creativity Lab or C-Lab, a research unit, has created a wearable sensor that can detect an approaching stroke. The source notes that medical experts expressed doubts about the possibility of implementing the idea, but this did not stop a group of five engineers.

Stroke is a dangerous and, unfortunately, a very common violation of cerebral circulation. In the sad statistics of mortality from cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular accidents take the second place after coronary heart disease. Every year, about 15 million people worldwide have a stroke. Approximately 66% of cases end in death or disability. Timely diagnosis of a stroke is extremely important, because the patient's life depends on how soon medical care is provided.

This month, C-Lab developers unveiled a prototype solution called the Early Detection Sensor & Algorithm Package (EDSAP). His work is based on the analysis of brain waves. The solution includes a sensor and an algorithm for processing the data obtained with its help. The processing results are available for viewing on a smartphone or tablet. Observation of the sensor readings makes it possible to notice violations in a timely manner and seek medical help.

In addition to detecting signs of a stroke, EDSAP makes it possible to monitor the patient's condition by obtaining information about the state of his nervous system, for example, to identify the presence of stress and fatigue, to analyze sleep.

From similar solutions already on the market, EDSAP compares favorably with portability and speed - now such an analysis of brain activity requires about 15 minutes in a medical institution. In addition, the sensor uses a new conductive rubber-like material developed by C-Lab, which provides improved measurement accuracy. The sensor is easy to wear and does not require saline to wet your hair to install. The most important thing, according to the developers, is that the sensor can be reduced and built into a more familiar everyday thing like a pair of glasses or a hair clip. So it can be worn for a long time without burdening yourself and without attracting the attention of others.

Developers see the development of EDSAP in the creation of other similar solutions for related applications, including monitoring of cardiac activity.
