Origin: From the poem "The Triumph of the Winners" (1829) by Vasily Andreevich Zhukovsky (1783-1852), which is a translation of the ballad of the same name "Das Siegesfest" by Johann Friedrich Schiller: ! // The scornful Thersites lives!" Patroclus - one of the heroes of the Iliad, who died at the hands of Hector near Troy. Thersites is one of the participants in the Trojan War, a physical and moral monster. "Contemptuous" - in the sense of contemptible, insignificant.
