Phraseologism: Nowhere to put samples.

Meaning: About a depraved woman (disapproved).

Origin: Actually a Russian expression, based on a comparison with a golden thing, passing from one owner to another. Each new owner demanded to check the product with a jeweler and put a test. When the product was in many hands, there was no more room for a sample on it.

Random phraseology:

Hannibal at the gate.

Meaning:

About the imminent and formidable danger (outdated book).

Origin:

Expression - half-calca from lat. "Hannibal ad portas". The expression belongs to the ancient Roman orator Cicero. He used it in one of his speeches against Mark Antony, who was marching on Rome to seize power. With this expression, Cicero reminded the Roman Senate of the great Carthaginian commander, whose name terrified the Roman citizens. Since then, it has served as a reminder of mortal danger.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

HSN-200/300 - thin budget power supplies for LED screens and tickers 20.03.2015

Mean Well continues to expand its family of power supplies adapted for use in LED screens, scoreboards and tickers. In addition to the already existing HSP-150/250, HDP-190/240, and NEL-200/300/400 series, two new HSN-200/300 series have been released with a body height of only 31 mm and with a reduced width of 62/81 mm, respectively .

The new power supplies are available in two output voltages of 4.2V and 5V and have an output power of 200/300W (5V output). Power supplies of the HSN-200/300 series are made in a compact case without fans, have a protective coating on the board and are operable in the temperature range of -25/-20...+70°С with output power dependence. When using them in appliances, it is imperative to ensure additional heat removal by installing them on a metal base with dimensions equivalent to 450x450x3 mm. Otherwise, the upper limit temperature will decrease.

New power supplies have a standard set of protective measures against short circuit, overload, overvoltage and overheating.

Main technical parameters of HSN-200 and HSN-300 series:

Output power 150...300 W (depending on output voltage);
Output voltage 4,2V; 5 V;
Input voltage 180...264 V AC;
Efficiency 87% (typ.);
Temperature range -25...+70°С (HSN-200)/-20...+70°С (HSN-300);
Overall dimensions (LxWxH) 210x62x31 mm (HSN-200) / 210x81x31 mm (HSN-300).
