Young guard

Bezymensky A.I.
Bezymensky A.I.

Phraseologism: Young guard.

Meaning: About that part of the youth that adequately develops and continues the traditions of the "old guard" (the older generation).

Origin: The expression became popular during the Napoleonic Wars, when Napoleon divided his guard into two parts - the "young guard" and the "old guard", which consisted of experienced soldiers. In Soviet times, the older generation of Bolsheviks was called the "old guard", the "young", respectively, - the Komsomol (Communist Youth Union"), which replaced the veterans. The expression became popular thanks to the poet Alexander Ilyich Bezymensky (1898-1973). His poem " Young Guard" (1922) became the text for the song - a kind of hymn of the Soviet Komsomol members: "Forward, towards the dawn, // Comrades in the fight! // With bayonets and buckshot // Let's make our way. // Bolder forward, and firmer step, // And higher youthful banner! // We are the Young Guard // of Workers and Peasants". The melody of this song (arranged by composer L. V. Shulgin) belongs to an old Tyrolean (Southern Germany) song. A. I. Bezymensky is not the first to write a new text for this melody As early as 1907, the German teacher and poet Heinrich Eilderman used it for his song dedicated to the working youth of Germany. It became widely known, including in Russia. When in 1922 the Central Committee of the Komsomol instructed A. I. Bezymeisky to write a song about the Komsomol, he simply composed a new, Russian text for the song "German Young Proletarians". After the Great Patriotic War, the expression "young guard" again became widely known: this was the name of the underground Komsomol organization that fought against the German occupiers of Donbass in the city of Krasnodon, Luhansk region (Ukrainian SSR) The feat of the "Young Guards" is described in the novel "The Young Guard" (1946) by A. A. Fadeev.

Random phraseology:

Let them hate - if only they were afraid.

Meaning:

Phrase-symbol of the attitude of the dictator to the population of the country.

Origin:

From Latin: Oderint, dum metuant. The authorship of these lines is usually attributed to the Roman emperor Caligula (12-41 AD), who became famous for his cruel rule. Indeed, as the Roman historian Suetonius ("Caligula") writes, these words were often repeated by the emperor of Rome. But he is not the author of these lines. Caligula, being an educated person, simply quoted a phrase from the tragedy "Atreus" by the Roman writer Action (170-90 BC).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

A sensor that tracks minor facial expressions 07.02.2023

Chinese scientists from Tsinghua University and Xi'an Polytechnic University have developed an ultra-thin, antimicrobial and breathable wearable sensor that can track human body movements and even subtle facial expressions.

The sensor is a three-layer nanogenerator, the structure of which is similar to a sandwich. The sensor can collect renewable and abundant mechanical energy with high efficiency.

The nanofiber of the middle layer serves to convert mechanical energy into electricity. It is coated on both sides with two nanofiber membranes, each of which is coated on one side with a 110 nanometer thick layer of silver that serves as an electrode layer.

The multilayer sensor is 91 micrometers thick.

The sensor has demonstrated an excellent level of sensitivity to human movements, which indicates great potential for applications in self-powered flexible electronic wearable devices and for monitoring the health of the human body.
