Have you ever wondered why some objects that are in exactly the same conditions (and therefore have the same temperature) seem, when touched, colder than others?

To answer this question, do this experiment. Put on the table, next to it, a wooden board and a mirror. Place a room thermometer between them. After some - quite a long - time, we can assume that the temperatures of the wooden board and the mirror are equal. The thermometer shows the temperature of the air - the same as, obviously, both the blackboard and the mirror.

What's colder?

Touch the mirror with your palm. You will feel the cold glass. Immediately touch the board. It will seem much warmer. What's the matter? After all, the temperature of the air, boards and mirrors is the same. Why did glass seem colder than wood?

Your hands have a temperature of about 36,6 degrees. This is the body temperature of a healthy person. And the temperature of the glass in the room is, say, 20°. As a good conductor of heat, the glass will immediately begin to heat up from your hand, and will eagerly "pump out" heat from it. From this you feel cold in the palm of your hand. Wood is a poor conductor of heat. In our experience, it also has a temperature of 20 °, and it will also begin to "pump" heat into itself, heat up by hand, but it does this much more slowly, so you do not feel a sharp cold. Here the tree seems to be warmer than glass, although both have the same temperature.

True, the point here is not only in the different materials of the bodies. If you touch a smooth, polished board and exactly the same, but not planed, you will feel the difference in their temperatures. And all due to the fact that the number of points of contact (thermal receptors of the skin of the hands) will be different.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Ford Mustang Lithium Electric Muscle Car 06.11.2019

Ford has partnered with automotive component manufacturer Webasto to unveil a unique prototype, the Mustang Lithium electric muscle car.

The car uses 800-volt technology. Such a system allows you to increase the power of the electric power platform, reduce its overall weight and reduce heating.

The Mustang Lithium has over 900 horsepower and over 1350 Nm of torque. The acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h, alas, is not given, but most likely it is about 3 s.

One of the features of the prototype is the Getrag MT82 mechanical six-speed gearbox. The car is equipped with Ford Performance axle shafts and a Super 8.8 Torsen differential.

Large 20-inch wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Brembo mechanisms are responsible for effective braking.

The muscle car received body parts made of carbon fiber. Various control modes are available, which can be selected through the 10,4-inch touch screen on-board computer.

In its current form, the Mustang Lithium serves as a test platform for testing electric vehicle technologies, as well as a demonstrator of the capabilities of electrified sports cars.
