Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Analog quantum simulators 13.02.2023

Classical computers are not suitable for solving new fundamental problems in the field of physics and beyond. In the future, universal and error-tolerant quantum computers can help scientists with this, but such will not appear soon. However, if the problem cannot be calculated, then why not do experiments? An analog quantum simulator can become a constructor of the quantum world, which will help to reveal the most mysterious physics beyond theory.

Researchers from Stanford University in the United States and University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland published a paper in the journal Nature Physics in which they talked about creating a new type of highly specialized analog computer (more precisely, a simulator). Scientists have presented one element of such a "computer" - two specially connected nano-sized metal-semiconductor components built into an electronic circuit.

The proposed solution imitates the interaction of two elementary particles, in this case, atoms and electrons. The simulation is so deep that the model retains all the quantum properties of atoms from interatomic interaction to the physical properties of particles. By scaling the platform - building matter atom to atom, like a constructor from Lego blocks - one can achieve the modeling of matter with the given properties and look at its reaction when interacting with other matter and at changing its properties. It is not possible today to calculate this on a large-scale model, and such a simulation is on the shoulder.

For example, theoretical physicists do not yet see patterns for a targeted search for materials for high-temperature superconductivity. Modern computers cannot help them in their calculations, especially since they have to search blindly. Modeling the behavior of matter on analog quantum simulators could open the way to this holy grail for energy and beyond. This will put the theory aside and test many ideas in practice.

Actually, analog quantum simulators of a new type can help in moving towards universal quantum computers. For example, there is an idea to use such quasiparticles as parafermions (groups of electrons with a special interaction) as qubits. The charges of electrons in this state (Z3) are equal to 1/3 of the usual charge. In laboratory conditions, scientists have not yet created such particles, and the proposed simulator model made it possible to simulate them after appropriately adjusting the voltage on the electrodes. In fact, scientists in the laboratory created matter that did not exist in nature before. And after all it can be studied after that!

“By scaling up a quantum simulator from two to many nanoscale components, we hope to be able to simulate much more complex systems that modern computers cannot handle,” said one of the authors of the work. “This could be the first step towards finally unraveling some of the most enigmatic mysteries of our quantum universe."
