Look out!

Kozma Prutkov
Kozma Prutkov

Phraseologism: Look out!

Meaning: Joking advice to be prudent, to beware of all sorts of sedition, not to allow disloyal behavior, etc. It is also used as an ironic commentary on such philistine, loyal fears.

Origin: The 42nd aphorism from the collection of thoughts and aphorisms "The Fruits of Thought" by Kozma Prutkov. This aphorism is the verb "watch" (be vigilant) in the imperative mood.

Random phraseology:

Insidious Albion.

Meaning:

About the foreign policy of England, steadily pursuing only its own national goals, for the sake of which it can go to the rejection of previously reached agreements, allied treaties, etc. (iron.).

Origin:

Albion is the ancient name of England, known since ancient times. For the first time in literature, the phrase appeared, apparently, in a poem written by the French Marquis de Ximen (1726-1817) about the introduction of a new republican calendar on October 5, 1793 in France. In this work, the poet calls to attack the "treacherous Albion" at sea. Expressions close in meaning are "English treachery", "treacherous Englishman", "treacherous island", etc. - were very popular in France during the Great French Revolution and subsequent years of Napoleonic rule, since Great Britain consistently fought against the revolutionary French Republic - refused to recognize the new state, after the execution of King Louis XVI organized an anti-French coalition of powers, etc. France after London violated on May 12, 1803, the Peace of Amiens concluded (March 25, 1802) with Napoleon, who otherwise threatened Great Britain with the use of armed force. Throughout the reign of Napoleon, the expression "perfidious Albion" is constantly present in the French press and in political rhetoric. Later, this image gains pan-European popularity. In 1840, a war began between Egypt and Turkey, in which France supported Egypt, and Great Britain joined a coalition of countries (Russia, Austria and Prussia) that supported Turkey. The expression again gained wide circulation: Heinrich Heine wrote on July 27, 1840 (Lutetia, July 14-27, 1840) that "perfidious Albion" was the slogan of all the French, except for the Legitimists who expected support from abroad. In Russia, this expression gained particular popularity during the Crimean War (1853-1856), when recent opponents - Great Britain and France - united in the war against Russia on the side of Turkey. Complaining about "English cunning" has a long history. For the first time this idea is found in the historical chronicle of 1209-1210, owned by the writer Otto St. Blazensky, who speaks in it of "perfidious England" (Anglia perfida). The reason for these words was the behavior of King Richard the Lionheart during the third crusade.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
