ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Remote temperature control in a country house Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Power regulators, thermometers, heat stabilizers Currently, many country houses and cottages are equipped with heating systems with automatically operating gas water heaters. This is an effective solution to the problem of maintaining a positive temperature in the room during the cold season. However, it also has a serious drawback: the gas burner can suddenly go out, for example, during a short-term violation of draft. Occasionally visiting the house, as a rule, it will not be possible to detect an emergency in a timely manner and the temperature may drop until the water in the pipes freezes. The result will be the complete destruction of the heating system, not to mention such troubles as the death of indoor flowers and pickles and other products stored in glass containers. The proposed control system will allow the owner of the house, even being away from him, to receive information about the temperature inside the room at any time by phone. During development, it was subject to the requirements of high reliability, independence from the supply network, maximum use of industrial components, simplicity and no need for complex adjustment. A small-sized "talking" clock KS-9829C was used as a temperature sensor, which reports not only the time, but also the ambient temperature, and a Siemens A35 cell phone with a headset is adapted to transmit this information. The included charger is always connected to the phone, so that the battery is always charged. This ensures reliable operation of the system even if the power supply is faulty for several days.
All you need to make yourself is to add a few details to the phone headset according to the diagram shown in fig. 1. To do this, carefully open the headset connector, solder thin stranded wires to pins 1, 3 and 12 and assemble the connector. The wires taken out of it from contacts 1 and 3 are connected to the charger in the polarity indicated in the diagram. The signal generated by the phone on pin 12 is used to initialize the message of the "talking" clock about the temperature and time. The clock also needs to be opened in order to solder two wires to the contacts of the "Sound" button. The headset microphone should be placed close to the loudspeaker. If you dial the cell phone number of the system on any other phone, then when you receive a call, a short positive pulse will appear on pin 12 of connector X1 (one of those intended for connecting an external speaker). It will go to the emitting diode of the optocoupler U1, as a result, the phototransistor of the optocoupler will open, which simulates pressing the "Sound" button of the clock. A message will sound, but the caller will not hear it because the phone is not yet "off-hook". It will auto-raise after a few seconds, when the message is already over. But from now until the caller interrupts communication, positive voltage will be present on pin 12 of the connector. Since this is equivalent to pressing the "Sound" button, the watch will repeat the time and temperature message, which this time will be heard by the caller. To enable auto-hook, the "Vehicle" mode is selected in the "Settings" menu of the Siemens A35 phone. Establishing the system was reduced to choosing the value of the resistor R2, in which pressing the clock button is simulated reliably and to finding the optimal position for the intelligibility of the message, the relative position of the clock speaker and headset microphone.
Sometimes, in order to eliminate mutual interference, it is necessary to select the location of the clock relative to the phone. In my case, it was best to set the clock vertically and place the phone horizontally to the right of it, as shown in fig. 2. The table shows the pin assignment of the cell phone connector Siemens A35 and S35. It will help owners of cell phones of other types to find in their connectors the contacts needed to work in the described system.
