Random news from the Archive Highway with luminous markings 16.04.2014 Design firm Studio Roosegaarde has piloted the smart roads of the future in the Netherlands to improve traffic safety and make it easier to drive in poor visibility and adverse weather conditions. The idea is to replace standard road markings with intelligent ones. We are talking about the use of a special paint with photoluminescent particles. In the daytime, such markings will be able to accumulate energy, and in the dark - to emit light. So far, "smart" markings have been applied to a 500-meter section of the N329 highway near the city of Ossa (the Dutch province of North Brabant). Eyewitnesses say that driving on such a road evokes the feeling of a fairy tale. It should be noted that Studio Roosegaarde does not intend to limit itself to only glowing markings. The company's future plans include the creation of "smart" road warning signs that will appear strictly under certain conditions. For example, when the temperature drops to a certain point, snowflakes may appear on the roadway, informing about possible ice. Studio Roosegaarde also proposes to install "smart" lighting systems on the slopes. Finally, in the future, special lanes for electric vehicles with integrated wireless battery charging modules may appear.
