Focus Description:

The performer first presents this trick to the audience as a hypnosis session. He invites an assistant to the stage and asks him to bring a coverlet with him. The assistant enters the stage with a veil in his hands. There are no sofas, cots, or beds on stage. And the performer tells the assistant that he will now put him to sleep right on stage.

The performer takes the veil and covers the assistant with it, leaving only the face open. Then, supporting the assistant with one hand under the back, the performer gradually "raises" him to a horizontal position, while repeating: "You are sleeping, you are sleeping, you are sleeping."

The assistant obediently closes his eyes, his head leans back, he falls asleep, lying "in the air" (Fig. 57, A). From under the covers, the audience sees only his head and shoes. The performer moves away from the sleeping person, continuing to make messages in his direction with his hands.

Focus secret:

The secret of the focus is revealed in Fig. 57 B. You see two sticks with shoes attached to the ends. The length of the sticks should correspond to the height of the assistant. Shoes are tied to sticks with laces very tightly so that they do not hang out. For greater reliability, pads are attached to the ends of the sticks, on which shoes are put on.

The assistant must have two pairs of identical boots - one will be on him, and the other on sticks. The assistant takes out sticks with boots under a coverlet. The magician, taking the coverlet from the assistant, holds it so as not to reveal the secret of the trick to the audience.

The assistant puts the free ends of the sticks on his shoulders, crouches, throws back his head and closes his eyes. An imaginary hypnosis session begins. The performer throws a veil over the assistant so that the audience can see his head. The assistant gradually begins to lift the sticks and brings them to a horizontal position. The magician, helping him to "lie down", supports the assistant not under his back, as it seems to the audience, but under his elbows, adjusting the rise of sticks with boots.

The performer pulls off the coverlet from the sleeping person when he is in a horizontal position. The audience sees the secret of the trick and laughs heartily, because at the beginning they were tensely following its course, and the unexpected ending is perceived especially funny.
